One of Pike County’s leading citizens died of heart trouble at his home near Zebulon, Nov. 27.

Mr John C. Wood 77 years of age died at his home on the Barnesville Rd. on Tuesday Nov.27 after a lingering illness caused from heart trouble. Mr Wood was probably one of the best known citizens of Pike County being a farmer of the highest type and a Christian gentleman of every since of the word. Mr. Wood was born August 19th 1857 within a short distance of the place where he lived and had won the esteem of every citizen of this and adjoining counties with whom he came in contact.

During the fall of 1881 he was married to Payola Walton who preceded him to his grave by some six years. Funeral service for Mr. Wood were held from the Nazareth church of which he had been a member of for several years with the Rev. G.H. Bailey of Atlanta a former pastor of the Zebulon circuit officiating, interment took place in the church yard.

He is survived by four daughters Mrs. Annie White of Alabama, Mrs. Freddie Bush of Zebulon, Mrs. Willie Allen of Zebulon, Mrs. Ludie Williamson of Williamson and two sons, Mr Sherman Wood of Barnesville, and Mr. Paul Wood.
