Albert "Fody" Haines, 70, of 703 E. 7th St., died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999 in the V.A. Hospital in Marion. There will be a Memorial service on Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999 at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Valier, with the Rev. Harl Ray Lewis officiating. There is no visitation. Parker-Reedy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Haines was born on Aug. 15, 1929, in West Frankfort, the son of Albert and Gertrude (Cutt) Haines. He was married to Bonnie (Tierney) Haines on June 17, 1976 in Naperville. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and had worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. and Allied Signal Aero Space. He was a life time member of V.F. W. of West Frankfort. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Valier. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; one son, Gary Wallace Haines; one grandson; two stepsons, Robert and Scott Adams; a sister, Rita Grant of Alsip, Ill. brothers-in-law, Patrick Tierney and David Treadway, both of Aurora; sisters-in-law, Debbie Treadway and Nuala Tierney, also of Aurora. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Allene Correa, Doris Schultz, Velma Breslin and Phyllis Rose. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the church or the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home.

Goldie M. Hamlin, 87, of 8659 N. Akin blacktop, died at 3:49 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in her home.
Graveside sevices will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Sheldon Township Cemetery in Sheldon, where there will be a short visitation prior to services. The Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hamlin was born on April 24, 1912, in Ben Parker Lake, Pulaski Co. Ky., the daughter of Willian Marshall and Rebecca (Hanover) Hughes.
She was married to Virgil Hamlin on Sept. 7, 1941. He preceded her in death.
She was an assembly line operator at the Zenith Products of Chicago for 16 years. She attended a Protestant Church in Watseka and loved to garden.
Survivors include one son, Cecil Hamlin and wife Gloria of Sheldon; five daughters, Wilma King of Hopkinsville, Ky, Wanda Zito and husband Angel Zito of Macedonia, Marie Willhelm, Watseka, Louella Howe and husband William of Benton, Helen Crawford of Pineknot, Ky.; one brother, Clifton "Pete" Hughes of Indianapolis, Ind., 34 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Sheila Kay Hammond, 41, died at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31 at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Sister Ruth Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Brady Cemetery in Akin. Friends may call from noon until the funeral hour on Sunday to the funeral home. Sheila was born in Benton on Nov. 16, 1957, to Lloyd and Betty Lou Akin Hammond. She was a legal secretary. She is survived by her mother Betty Lou Hammond, Benton; maternal grandmother Ida Mae Akin, Benton; grandparents Richard and Marie Delano, Auburn Hills, Mich.; one son Bobby Joe Cheshire, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; one daughter Crystal Gayle Carpio, Earlville, Ill.; one granddaughter Jasmine Faith; one sister Paula Jean Christensen, Denver, Colo.; four brothers Randy Edward Hammond, Stevenson, Ala., Richard Dean Hammond, Thompsonville, George Marshall Hammond, Benton and Danny Len Hammond, Ironton, Mo.; several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. Sheila was preceded in death by her father, grandfathers and by one niece.

Nellie Hargett, 91, died on September 25, 1999 in her home in Thompsonville.
Services were held Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Sloan Funeral Home, Galatia, with the Rev. Bill Morris officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thompsonville.
Mrs. Hargett was born on Oct. 5, 1907 in Franklin County, the daughter of Joe and Ada (Price) Bennett.
She was married on March 12, 1924, to Marion Frank Hargett and he preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1990.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Thompsonville Methodist church.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Hargett of Thompsonville, Eddie Hargett of West Frankfort; three daughters, Mae Davis of West Frankfort, Betty Elkins of Thompsonville and Sue Schwartz of Mt. Zion; one brother, Adrian Bennett of West Frankfort; one sister, Ruth Gulley of Benton; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, one grandson, Mike Elkins, one sister, Helen Summers and one brother, Fred Bennett preceded her in death.

Doris N. Hargraves, 63, died on Oct. 24, 1999 in Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26. Mrs. Hargraves was born on Oct. 21, 1936, in Mulkeytown, the daughter of Harvey and Marie (Rentfro) Furlow. She was married to George E. Hargraves, who died on Feb. 22, 1993. She was a homemaker. Anna Harness, a 43-year resident of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., originally from Benton, died on Wednesday, July 7, 1999 in Hollywood, Fla.
Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 7, 1999 in Hollywood Memorial Gardens North, Hollywood, Fla. Arrangements were by the Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FLa. 33081-0969.
She retired in 1977 from South Florida State Hospital as head dietician.
She was married to Ralph R. Harness who preceded her in death as did brothers, Frank and Edmond Czenski.

Everett E. (Buck) Harper, 76, of Anna Gray Highrise, died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, in the Veterans Medical Center in Marion. Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Odle officiating. Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Harper was born on Sept. 15, 1923 in West Frankfort, the son of James and Bessie (Walton) Harper. He formerly worked for Budman's Hydrolics and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Patrich of Carbondale, Charlotte Hall of Benton; one brother, Ronald Wayne Harper of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Thurmond Eual Harper, and an infant sister, Mary Aileen Harper.

Mrs. Harris was born in Parrish on Oct. 3, 1906, to Henry Clay and Ollie (Dillon) Ing.
She was married on Oct. 24, 1926, in Benton, to R.G. (Polly) Harris who died Oct. 4, 1977.
She was a mother and homemaker.
A 1925 graduate of Benton Township High School, she was a member of the First Christian Church in Benton.
Survivors include three daughters, Polly Weathers of Benton, Kay Thomas of Murphysboro, Jody Donosky of Newburgh, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Brad Weathers of Carlyle; Jill Skibo of Benton; Todd Thomas of New York, Joel Thomas and Andy Thomas, both of Murphysboro; Jay Donosky of Evansville, Ind. and Ted Donosky of Newburgh, Ind.; five great-grandchildren, Ryan and Christopher Skibo of Benton; Lindsay, Holly and Patrick Weathers of Carlyle.

She married James Marion Harris on May 17, 1925, and he preceded her in death. She was a housewife and member of the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church, Akin, and the Thompsonville Eastern Star. Christina Harvengt, 93, died on Sat. June 19, 1999, at St. Peters Manor Care Center. Services will be held at the Valier First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be held at the Gilbert Funeral Home, 209 N. Emma St., Christopher, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 21, Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser. A visitation was held at the Baue Funeral Home in Wentzville on Sunday, June 20, 1999.
Mrs. Harvengt was born on Feb. 3, 1906, in Rivarolo, Italy, the daughter of Severino and Teresa (Maglit) Boggio. She was married to Gustave Harvengt and he preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Valier.
Survivors include a son, Thomas H. Harvengt and wife Betty J. of O'Fallon, Mo. ; a daughter, Shirley R. Cullum and wife Robert of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Minnie Pinazzi of Valier; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Harvengt, brother, James Boggio and one grandchild.

PANSY BRYANT HAWORTH Benton Pansy Bryant Haworth, 89, of 501 West Reed in Benton, passed away at the Benton Healthcare Center on Monday, June 7, 1999. Pansy was a member of the North Benton Baptist Church. There was a close bond between Pansy and her two sisters, Hazel MacDonald of Benton and Opal Jones of Brocton, Ill. and now residing in Benton Healthcare Center. Also surviving is a devoted niece, Lois Jenkins; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Rodman and George Haworth, by her parents, Joe and Mary Ellen Bryant, a brother, John Bryant and a son, Bob Rodman. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetry in Benton with the Rev. Jim Endsley officiating. Helen Irene Heard, 100 of West Frankfort died Dec. 9, 1999 at Parkview Care Center in West Frankfort.
Friends may call at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 23 from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday at 2:00, followed by private graveside rites. The Rev. Jerry Barron of the First Baptist Church will conduct the service.
She was born Dec. 19, 1899, the daughter of John and Sarah (Hamilton) Duncan. She married Larkin Bailey Heard on June 2, 1923. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1958.
Mrs. Heard was a homemaker and the oldest member of the First Baptist Church in West Frankfort.
She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Roberts of North Fort Myers, Fla. and a son, John T. Heard of Bellville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Paula Coleman of West Frankfort; Jeff Roberts of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and John Roberts of Hamilton, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Coleman and Samuel Roberts and two nephews Bill and Bob Hall of Abilene, Texas.

Ray H. Heinzman, 86, of 1018 W. State St., died Monday afternoon, Nov. 1, 1999, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in the Cody & Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville, with burial to follow in the Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call to the funeral home after noon on Tuesday and the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Heinzman was born on Feb. 10, 1913, in Christopher, the son of John H. and Grace (Clark) Heinzman. He was married on July 22, 1949 to Lola Mae (Seeber) Heinzman. She survives. A graduate of the Christopher High School, he received a B.S. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and his Masters from the University of Illinois, Champaign. He taught business education courses at Benton Township High School for 22 years and then moved to Salem, where he was associated with Central National Life for nine years before going to Jacksonville. He retired from the company as treasurer in 1978. He was a member and Elder Emeritus of the Central Christian Church and was also a member of the Jacksonville Lion's Club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the European Theatre. In addition to his wife, he is suvived by two sons, Clark H. Heinzman and wife Joan, John W. Heinzman; one daughter, Jane Rae Heinzman, all of Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Max Heinzman and one sister, Mary Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, William James Hill, Benton, and Walter G. Hill of Bonnie; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Jordan of Prescott, Ariz., one sister, Mrs. Jane Smith, Edwardsville.

Erma L. (Lorene) Hill, 92, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at the Pekin Living & Rehabilitation Center in Pekin.

Mrs. Hill was born in Franklin County, (Northern Twp.) on May 11, 1907, the daughter of Franklin Sherman Shaffer and Alice Emily (Mansell) Shaffer.
She married Clyde Ray Hill on March 29, 1924, in West Frankfort. He died March 26, 1984.
She was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Benton.
Survivors include two sons, James Hill and wife Diana of Morton, Paul Hill and wife Mona of Pekin; two daughters, Geri Davis of Centralia, Anna Moss and husband Joe of Groveland; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.

Gloria L. Holden, 69, died at 10:58 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 in the Herrin Hospital. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Robert Winemiller officiating. Burial was in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Mrs. Holden was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on March 4, 1930, the daughter of Edwin and Louise (Galirda) Wisman. On April 26, 1948, she was married to James (Peachy) Holden. He died Nov. 1, 1997. Harold Finley Holder, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1999, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1911, and spent his boyhood years in South Greenfield, Missouri. He lived most of his adult life in Benton, where he was the Railway Express Agent.
Harold was active in the Rotary Club as a member and president, the Odd Fellows Lodge, and as a deacon in the First Christian Church of Benton.
He will be greatly missed by Loretta, his wife of 65 years; his son, Larry Holder; daughter-in-law Donna, and grandson Matthew of St. Louis; his daughter, Retha Belle Peters, and son-in-law, Ted Peters of Albuquerque, and grandsons, Will Coucheron-Aamot of Los Angeles and Chris Coucheron-Aamot of Chicago and his sister-in-law, Belle Brogan of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
A Memorial service was held in Greenfield, Missouri on Wednesday, Sept. 29, with burial in the Daugherty Cemetery.

Doyle A. Howard, 86, died at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 1999, in his home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina, with the Rev. Randy Sells officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Howard was born on June , 1913, in Bonnie, the son of Samuel K. and Grace (Oathout) Howard. On April 22, 1995, he married Arline Hughey Dare in Jefferson County. She survives.
He was formerly a partner in Howard and Tate Oil Co.
A member of the Bonnie Church of God, he was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, Arline Howard of Bonnie, he is survived by one son, Donald Howard and wife Barbara of Bicknell, Ind.; grandsons, Bradley Howard and Rodney Howard; stepdaugher, Nancy Germann of Mt. Vernon; stepson Tom Dare of Haughton, La.; three great-grandchilden; five stepgrandchildren; eleven stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Hansel Howard of Mt.Vernon, Robert E. Howard of West Frankfort; one sister, Muriel Allen of Bonnie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Paul (Toots) Howard, 72, died at 9:25 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at the VA Medical Center, Marion. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, after 5 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. that evening at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. David Howard officiating. Burial will be Friday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mr. Howard was born in Benton, on Aug. 6, 1927, the son of Bert Sr. and Gretta (Neal) Howard. He was married to Frankie Lou (Sneed) Howard on June 24, 1951, and she survives. He was a longtime member and a Deacon of the North Benton Baptist Church. Paul was an Army veteran, a cement finisher, and also owned and operated Beaty's Service Station for a number of years in Benton. Survivors include his wife, Frankie, and children, David Paul and JoAnn Howard of New Orleans, La.; Dianne and husband Mark Crisp, Benton; Douglas T. and Kara Howard, Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Danny and Dena Howard and Dusty and Josh Crisp; one brother, Robert E. Howard and a sister-in-law, Dorotha Howard. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Daniel and Bert Howard, Jr.

Josephine Howell, 62, of Alexander Drive, died at 7:13 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 at the Franklin Hospital.

Mrs. Howell was born on March 24, 1937, in Du Quoin, the daughter of Lucian and Frances (Stickles) Dennison. She married Eugene O. Howell on Sept. 24, 1954 and he survives.
She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Howell, Benton; four sons, Carl, Roy, and Robert Howell, all of Benton, James Howell, Centralia; five daughters, Kathy Fitzpatrick, Ewing, Venita Howell, Norma Walters, Joann Carmon and Amy Howell, all of Benton; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Dennison, Du Quoin; Orville Dennison, Christopher; two sisters, Mary Kilmer, Du Quoin, Emma Sizemore, Du Quoin; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Josephine Howell, a grandson, Roy Eugene Howell, and a granddaughter, Sara Ann Flener.

She was married to J. O Howerton, who died in 1987. She was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Coello, the Ladies Aux. Eagles in Christopher, and was an avid bingo player. Mr. Isom was born on Dec. 11, 1932 in Christopher, the son of Harold Cleland and Marguerette (Ryan) Isom.

Wanda Belle Jenkins, 75, died at 7:48 Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Revs. Eugene Rister and David German officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Jenkins was born on June 2, 1924, in Macedonia, the daughter of Lyman and Cecil (Overturf) Carr. She was married to Robert E. Jenkins on July 5, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo. He survives.
She was secretary of Rural Farm Center of McLeansboro and an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church near McLeansboro.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robet E. Jenkins; a daughter Ann German and husband the Rev. David German of Benton; a son, Roger C. Jenkins of Du Quoin; a granddaughter, Kam Jenkins of San Francisco, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Billie Carr.

Laraine Floro Jenner, 46, died October 13, 1999 at her home in Ogden. A memorial service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct . 24. At her request, she was cremated. Poulson Funeral Home of Benton, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Laraine Lee Floro on Dec. 25, 1952 in Kankakee, to Guy L. and Ruth Upchurch Floro.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Jenner of Ogden; her mother, Ruth Floro Morgan of Benton; her brother, Ward Floro of Benton; her sister, Lycia Willis of Mt. Vernon; her brother, Adam Floro and wife, Linda of Marion; and her sister, Pamela Tippit, and husband John of Bonnie. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Jared Floro, Samantha Willis, and Guy, Hannah, and Heather Floro; also by her uncle, Ernest Upchurch and numerous other relatives and friends, especially her friend, Ronald Rees.
She was preceded in death by her little brother, Spencer Floro, her father, Guy L. Floro and her stepfather, Floyd Morgan, and her grandparents.
She was a graduate of Benton High School and Southern Illinois University. She had a very successful career with the IRS but had retired due to a disability.
Although Flowers will be placed in Shiloh in her memory, the magnitude of her spiritual essence is like a flower that continues to bloom and remain alive in our hearts forever.

Mr. Johnson was born in Rend City on Dec. 15, 1916, the son of Harold and Lora Johnson.
He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II and was a retired barber. He was a member of the North Benton Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Edith Rose Johnson; one daughter Verita Smith and husband Orval of Chicago; two stepsons, Gary L. Survivors include his wife, Elga (Welch) Johnson, of Effingham; one son, Bob Perry of Ridgeland, Mississippi; one sister, Mrs. Walter (Delores) McCoy of Effingham, one grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Harold Levi Jones, 79, died at 10:37 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, at the Franklin Hospital in Benton.
He was born oin Aug. 28, 1919 in Lawton, North Dakota to Omer and Millie Haithcoat Jones. On Feb. 3, 1941, he married Virginia A. Marquis Jones. She survives.
Mr. Jones was an Army veteran of WW II, serving from Dec. 1, 1942 to Dec. 1, 1945.
He had worked for James River Paper Co. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
He is survived by his wife Virginia A. Jones, Benton, one daughter Bonnie Cutler, Campbellsville, Ken., three grandchildre, one great-granddaughter and one sister Helen VanHorn, Marion.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Byron E. Jones, two brothers and two sisters.

Kash was born on August 13, 1979, in Centralia, the son of Randy and Debbie (Camp) Kash of Scheller. He was engaged to fiance Tara Spotanski of Scheller on Dec. 26, 1998.
He was a truck driver for Cusumano and Sons Produce and also farmed on the family farm.
He was a 1997 graduate of Waltonville High School and attended the Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Scheller.

He will always be remembered as a sweet and loving baby. He came into our world so softly and he only stayed a little while. But what an imprint his tiny footprints have left in our hearts forever. We thank God for sending us such a precious gift.

Guy Kenneth "Kenny" Kimmel, 18, of Ewing, died Wednesday morning July 7, 1999 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Kenny was born in Mt. Vernon, on April 26, 1981. He attended Benton High School, and was active in basketball, football and track during his school years. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students. He enjoyed computers and art. He was a member of the Whittington Baptist Church. He is survived by his parent, Sandra Kimmel Marquis and her husband Barry, of Fredericktown, Mo. Vernon is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kirk was born on May 9, 1919, in Perry County, the daughter of Joe and Nettie (Span) Thompson. She was married to William (Bud) Kirk on Jan. 7, 1937 in Jefferson County. He survives. She worked at Kirk's Flowers in Sesser. In addition to her husband Bud, she is survived by three sons, William P. Kirk and wife Paula of Sesser, Danny L. Kirk and wife Diana of Sesser, Bob Kirk of Sesser; three daughters, Patsy Dickey and husband Wesley of Sesser, Paula Wilkerson of Goreville, Judy Eckels and husband Richard of Sesser; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one sister, Alvena Dagler of Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, seven sisters and one brother.

John D. Kotval, Jr., 67, of 1209 Highland St., Benton, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of our Lord after an extended illness on Oct. 2, 1999. Mr. Kotval was born Oct. 23, 1931, the son of the late Rev. John Kotval, Sr.and Hattie Kotval, who survives from Jacksonville, Florida. For 41 years, the husband of his devoted wife and friend, the former Anzel Kay Rice, who survives. Two children, both living, his son Donald Kotval of Columbia, Tennnessee and his daughter, Paula Kotval Learned of Bradley, Ill. Mr. Kotval moved to Benton in 1986 after 35 years of faithful service to the AT & T Corportion from which he retired. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Benton. His sisters, Helen Roberts of Champaign and Sandra McBroom of Jacksonville, Florida; and a brother, Jerry Kotval of Londonderry, New Hampshire survive him. A second brother, Charles Kotval, predeceased him. One of the many joys of his life was the time spent with his four grandchildren, Stephanie, Jonathan, Courtney, and David. The family requests that donations be sent to Olivet Nazarene University Foundation of Kankakee. A scholarship in his name has been established to help ministerial students. Carl R. Kunkel, 94, of 403 W. Market St., died at 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 in his home.

Mr. Kunkel was born on Feb. 16, 1905 in Mulkeytown, the son of Henry and Clara (Eichorn) Kunkel. He was married to Velma Eubanks, who died Aug. 30, 1997.
He was a retired coal miner and farmer and a member of the Valier 1st Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Howard, of Owensboro, Ky.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Freda Froemsdors of Cape Giradeau, Mo.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Edgar and Fred Kunkel anad one sister, Leona Schaeffer.

James (Jim) R. Lampley, 79, formerly of Benton, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Gulfport. He had been in ill health for some time. Services were held Monday morning, Nov. 8, at Raiman Funeral Home in Gulfport. Jim was born Feb. 16, 1920. His parents were Mattie L. and Ezra R. Wilson. Jim joined the USAF in 1941. He spent 22 years in the service, and retired in 1963. He then entered Civil Service, where he stayed for a number of years. He met his wife, Marion Craig at Kessler AFB in Biloxi. She preceded him in death. Jim and Marion made their home in Gulfport, where they raised four children, Joan, Jerry, Keith and Barbara, all of Mississippi. They survive, along with two brothers, Glen Wilson of Benton and Carl Wilson of Sandwich. Brothers Troy Lampley and Harvey Wilson also preceded him in death.

Katherine Myrtle Hargrove Leffler, 86, a former Benton resident died Friday, June 18, 1999, in the Woodlands Convalescent Center, Newburgh, Ind.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with Father Sy Loehrlein officiating. Burial was in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mrs. Leffler was born on Dec. 17, 1912, in Benton, the daughter of Elmer and Bessie (Reed) Hargrove.
She was known to many local children as "Nanny Kate".
She owned and operated grovery stores for approximately 50 years, The first store was East Side Market, followed by Kate's Market, both located on North McLeansboro St., in Benton. She was a member of St. Rupert's Catholic Church in Newburgh.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat O'Sullivan and husband Bill, Evansville; three grandchildren, Sheryl O'Sullivan, Redlands, Calif.; Scott "Tag" O'Sullivan, Bradenton, Fla., Stacia Schofield, Louisville, Ky. and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy F. Lewis, 69, of Watson, died at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday, July 31 at the St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at the Pagel Funeral Home in Watson with Brother Robert Atchison officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lewis was born November 17, 1929 in Effingham, the daughter of Rufus and Lonnie Shadwell. She married Jesse W. Lewis who died in 1974.
Mrs. Lewis was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Iola, Ill.
She is survived by one son, Donald W. Lewis, Iola; one son-in-law, James DeWeese, Watson and one daughter-in-law, Donna Lewis, Iola; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He married the former Virginia Ruth Davis and she preceded him in death. He was a retired coal miner having worked at Freeman United Mine #3 in Waltonville. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and served in the 1906 Engineer Aviation Battalion. He was a member of the Tuscan Masonic Lodge, Broughton, and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church Benton. He was a retired coal miner and U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of Christ, West Frankfort. Carlyn Livesay, 81, formerly of Benton, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999. A Memorial service will be held a 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church in Benton, with visitation beginning at 1:30. At her request, Mrs. Livesay will be cremated. Mrs. Livesay was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Benton, the daughter of Thomas and Ethel Young. For nearly twenty years, Carolyn taught many area children in her Jack and Jill nursery school before retiring to Florida with her husband in 1978. Her dedication to the Methodist Church was demonstrated through her many activities with the church in Benton, as well as Ft. Myers. Mrs. Livesay is survived by one brother Gene H. Young and wife Pat of Ft. Myers, Fla.; sister-in-law Hazel Young of Benton; two sons, Harry and wife Elizabeth of Showlow, Az., and Michael and wife Nancy of Marion; four grandsons, Jeff Livesay and wife Kimberly of Long Beach, Calif; Scott Livesay of Southern, Calif; Stephen Livesay of Benton; and Kevin Livesay and wife Selinda of Akin; four granddaughters, Kimberly Livesay and husband Dale Houseworth of Benton; Robin Culbreth and husband Stacy of Benton; Beth Livesay of Herrin; and Jennifer Livesay of Marion; and two great-grandchilden, Nicholas and Emily Culbreth. Mr. Loosier was born June 6, 1928, in Courtland, Ala., the son of Jesse and Lois (McGregor) Loosier. He married the former Berdella Aldrich on April 4, 1988, and she survives. He retired from the Joy Manufacturing Company, where he worked as a machine inspector. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Benton American Legion Post 280, a 50 year member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rites Bodies, Belleville. He was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife, Berdella Loosier, Benton; a son, James C. Mr. Loucks was born on April 4, 1936 in Scheller, the son of Enro and Gladys (Madray) Loucks. His first wife was Mona Loucks, who died April 8, 1994. He later married Christine Guido in Whittington on Jan. 6, 1996. She survives. He worked in maintenance and attended the Whittington Baptist Church. In addition to his wife Christine, he is survived by three sons, Randy, Ray and Jerry Loucks of Sesser; one daughter, Rita Gonzales, Dallas, Texas;two stepsons, Johnny and Jerry Conner; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Carl Loucks and Clifford Loucks of Scheller, Carson and Dean Loucks of Sesser; one sister, Mary Panzier Tennison of Belle Rive; several nieces and nephews. Kenneth Lyday, died at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, in his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the Irvin Funeral Home in Odin, with the Rev. Randy Shibilo officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call Tuesday to the Irvin Funeral Home after 9 a.m. until time of service. Mr. Lyday was born in Benton, on Aug. 7, 1933, the son of Clarence and Dollie (Haggard) Lyday.
He was maried in Lake Villa on Dec. 18, 1966 to Opal (Sanson) Lyday. She survives.
He drove a school bus for West Bus Service and owned and managed a Phillips 66 Sation in Salem and operated a concession stand at the Belleville Outdoor Theater.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
He had lived at Odin the last 8 years and prior to that in Salem.
In addition to his wife Opal, he is survived by four sons, Larry Lyday of Odin, Robert Lyday of Kinmundy, Craig Lyday of Odin, and Daryl Lyday of Odin; one daughter, Robyn Lyday of Odin; a brother Larry Lyday of rural Centralia and a sister, Ruby Thurmond of Benton; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Carl Lyday, sisters, Shirley Stafford and Berniece Sanford.

Zola McClerren, 88, formerly of West Frankfort and Thompsonville died on Aug. 27, 1999, in the Severin Intermediate Care in Benton. Marion S. McGlasson, age 89, passed away on April 22, 1999, at his home in Sarasota, Florida. Memorial services were held at the Church of Palms Presbyterian Church of Sarasota, with the Rev. Bruce Parker, officiating. The body was cremated with interment in Sarasota.
Marion was born Dec. 12, 1910. His parents were the late Scott and Flora McGlasson, all former residents of the Mulkeytown area. He grew up in the house presently known as the historic Silkwood Inn Museum, being a descendant of the original innkeeper, Brazilla, Silkwood. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University of Carbondale.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bernice McGlasson, of Sarasota; his sister, Elizabeth McGlasson Howell, of Florence, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McLain was born on April 16, 1922, in Moberly, Mo., the daughter of Watt Kribbs and Carie (Long) Kribbs. She married Jesse L. McLain on Oct. 10, 1938, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1998.
She was a retired State Hospital employee from Manteno.

She married Joseph Allen Milton on May 28, 1941.
She was a homemaker and active in her community of Benton as a member of the First Christian Church. She was a Welcome Wagon hostess, and a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her children, Virginia and husband Ted Farmer of Belleville, Carol Casserilla of Jefferson City, Mo.; and Joe and wife Karen Milton of Swansea; a sister, Sybil and husband Al Truitt of Monroe, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Alan and wife Kari Farmer, Bob and wife Christina Farmer, Caryn and husband Jim Boeschen, Brian and wife Carrie Casserilla, Matthew, Monica, and Mark Milton, six great-grandchildren, Kassi, Korby, Kalli and Austin Farmer, Parks and Phoebe Boeschen; a dear sister-in-law to Josephine (Glenn) Watkins, and dear aunt.
Her husband Joe, an infant daughter, Mary Ellen, her parents, and a brother, Troy C. Dorris and son-in-law, Larry Casserilla preceded her in death.

Barbaa (Grunda) Minnick, 70 died on Friday, July 9, 1999, in her home.

Mrs. Minnick was born on May 24, 1929, in Schnaittach, Germany, the daughter of George and Margaret Soergel. She was married to Robert Minnick. He survives.
She was a retired baker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Linda Gocha of Martinsville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Erik and Aimee Gocha, also of Martinsville; two sisters, Betty Furnkas of Nurnberg, Germany and Ann Joyner of Tarboro, North Carolina.

John Russell Mitchell, 78, formerly of Christopher, died on Tuesday, June 22, 1999, in the Venice Hospital. Services will be held Monday, June 28, at 11 a..m. in the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Mitchell was born in Christopher on Oct. 12, 1920, the son of Otto A. and Peachie Ann (Monteith) Mitchell. He married Ruth Rath on May 21, 1943, in Carbondale. She survives. He was a retired special agent in the F.B.I., and was a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion in Christopher, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Venice Shrine Club, Hump Pilots Assoc. Arthur Montoya, 80, of Benton, died at 4:41 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 1999, at the Franklin Hospital in Benton.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastor Rod Joplin officiating. Burial, with Military Rites by the Benton American Legion and VFW Posts will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call from noon until the funeral hour on Tuesday to the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton.
Mr. Montoya was born on Dec 22, 1918, in Zelma, Cal., the son of Nick and Louise (Carbahal) Montoya.
He was married on Dec. 26, 1945 in Benton, to Norma (Neal) Montoya. She survives.
Arthur enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Feb. 14, 1940, he retired on Feb. 14, 1960. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served in the Black Cat Command in Guadalcanal. He was in the Battle of Midway, and was VP Command of Black Cat 12.
Arthur was a member of the Benton Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; three sons, Nick Montoya and wife Lisa of Benton; Richard Montoya and wife Mary of Glenview, Gordon Montoya and wife Katie of Brandon, Fla.; grandchildren, Nicole and husband Terry, Quentin, Scott and wife Laura, Allison, Daniel, Elyse, Clarissa, Whitney, Kerby; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Cody and Alisha; two brothers, Henry Montoya of Columbus, Ga., Fred Montoya of Hanford, Ca.l.; three sisters, Laura of San Franciso, Cal., Julia of Fresno, Cal. Dollie of Butte, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Connie and by one brother, Augusta (Auggie) Montoya.
ALMA EDITH MOORE

Alma Edith Moore, 84, died at the Pinckneyville Skilled Care at 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999.
Services will be held Tuesday, at 11 a.m. in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with the Rev. Jerry Aken officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 this evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Moore was born on June 9, 1915, in Clifford, the daughter of Louis Edward and Emma (Scheller) Kossak.
She was married to William Albert Moore who died on July 18, 1984.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church in Sesser.
Survivors include two daughters, Marla Fay Wright of Pinckneyville and Billie Kay Webb of Sesser; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Kossak, Ariz.
LOUISE L. "SIS" MOORE

Louise L. "Sis" Moore, 90, died at the Franklin Hospital in Benton on Thursday morning Aug. 19, 1999.
She was born in Benton on June 9, 1909 to John A. and Elizabeth Werner Ludwig. On Dec. 6, 1951, she marries George S. Moore, he preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1983.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton and a member of the Boneyard Boccie Ball Club.
She is survived by three nieces, Bette-Jon Schrade, Sydney McLain and Cathy Ludwig-Bell, four great-nieces, Heather Ludwig, Jodi Ludwig, Caitlin Bell and Courtney Bell, and two great-nephews, Josh Bell and Scott McLain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Katherine Ludwig and Marie Ludwig Schrade, two brothers, John (Pokey) Ludwig and Harry Ludwig and one nephew, Michael Ludwig.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton with the Rev. Jack Wolfe officiating. There will be no visitation. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Morton and Johnston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Benton.

Lowell V. Moore, 63, died at 12:35 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 1999, in his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, in the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Tiffin officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to the funeral home.
Mr. Moore was born in West Frankfort on May 14, 1936, the son of Valley Paul and Mary (Prior) Moore.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Benton Church of God.
He is survived by: 3 daughters: Loretta Krutsinger and husband Steve of Bourbonnais, Mary Lutz and husband Will of Benton, Crystal Bleeker and husband Pete of Texico; three sons, Jim Moore and wife Denise of Kankakee, Tom Moore and wife Tammy of Bradley, Lowell Moore II of Benton; eight grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Moore and wife Daisy of Benton.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, by one sister, Dorothy, and by one grandson.

Sarah Morris, 63, of 206 Englewood Place, died at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at the RML Speciality Hospital, Hinsdale.

Mrs. Morris was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Kern and Leida (Hungate) Steinsultz. She married James Edward Morris, and he died on May 18, 1978.
She was a housewife.
Survivors include three sons, Ed and Wesley Morris of Benton, Larry Morris of Seneca; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, James Steinsultz, Chenoa; a sister, Edna Sandusky, Benton; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Gary Morris, a grandson, Kristopher Morris, and a brother, Norman Steinsultz.

Naomi Ruth Murphy, 66, a former West Frankfort resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999 at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon.

Mrs. Murphy was born Dec. 28, 1932, in West Frankfort, the daughter of Logan Dell and Allie (Martin)
Todd. She married Robert Eugene Moss Dec. 28, 1949 and he preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1979. Naomi married Bob G. Murphy Sr., Aug. 20, 1992 in Dixon. He survives.
She was a dietary supervisor at the Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital for 28 years prior to her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Dixon, where she played the piano for many years.
In addition to her husband, Bob G. Sr. of Dixon; one son, Danny Logan Moss of Clinton, Iowa; one daughter, Sharon Lynn (Jerry) Miles of Dixon; one stepson Bob G. and wife Debbie Murphy Jr. of Coralville, Ia.; three stepdaughters, Debra Ferrer, Wanda Murphy, both of Iowa City, Iowa, Candra Melancon of Coralville; one brother, Clarence (Delores) Todd of Christopher; mother-in-law, Anna Moss of Dixon; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Everett Mygatt, 79, died at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
