MARLTON, NEW JERSEY
WELCOME TO MY HOMETOWN
MARLTON,Evesham Township, established 1692, a twin town with Evesham, Worcestershire, England is located in Burlington County in the southern part of New Jersey, The Garden State.More than a century ago, the land now known as Marlton was the site of farms and cranberry bogs. It also was the site of marl pits. In fact, the Village of Marlton was named after marl-a green sand clay used as fertilizer. It was mined throughout the area and large open pits like the 30-foot deep one at North Maple Avenue and Route 70 were common. While some farmland still exists and at least one cranberry bog has survived, the village today consists of homes and businesses.Through the years the cranberry bogs were dredged to create lakes.
I have lived here since 1969 and in that time the development has grown by leaps and bounds, with housing and shopping centers replacing orchards and farms around town. With the population explosion we now need seven public elementary, one parochial, two middle and one high school. Cherokee High School, part of Lenape Disrict is located in Marlton. We have a volunteer Fire and Emergency Department. The Marlton Fire Company is more than a century old. It was organized in 1898, just a month and a half after new water mains were laid in town. To sound the alarm someone struck a steel locomotive drivewheel tire. A division of West Jersey Hospital is also in town.Today, Marlton is the largest community of Evesham Township . More that 38,000 residents live within the township's 29.5 square miles.
Please take a walk through Marlton with me and view some local sites.
...I hope you enjoy what you see

At the far end of Main Street we arrive at
The Township Buildings

Kessler Memorial Playing Fields
to see Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball and Tennis facilities as well as this volunteer built Playground for the younger set

Those young people attend
