Hi! I am Dawn and I have a daycare in my home.  I live in Lansing, Michigan with my husband and two children.

I have been licensed since 1997.  I am currently taking classes at Lansing Community College to get my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development and CDA.  I have received for my CDA.  I also have my Certificate of Achievement in Child Development.

My part of my philosophy is that all children have certain needs that must be met if they are to grow and learn at their best.  Some of these basic needs are a loving environment, understanding, a trusting relationship, and knowing that their needs are always going to be met.  I would meet these needs by always being understanding of the child by providing the kind of environment that promotes love and respect and by being there consistency for the child to help build the trusting relationship.

I believe the purpose of education is to help children to see their abilities, help children meet and exceed their potential, and to help the children to become a successful member of society.  Without an education the children wouldn't know what to do or how to function properly in society.  I feel that we need to get children the best education possible.

I believe that children learn best when they feel comfortable in their environment and have all their basic needs met.  I also feel that it is important for children to get positive encouragement from adults in their life.  They need this encouragement even if they are unsuccessful at something that they try.  They need this so that they will continue to try until they become successful at the task.

With children moving on to school and others moving out of the area, I find myself with a few vacancies to fill.  I currently have vacancies for children of all ages. I am part of the USDA Child Care Food Program.  I provide the children with breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

I teach the children that are 2 1/2 and older a preschool curriculum.  This program includes sign language. Each day we do sensory, focused free play, circle time, art, and music. We also do plenty of motor activities. We also go outside everyday.  I make sure that there are activities for each of the five primary learning areas; physical, creative, cognitive, language, and socio-emotional.  And of course there is plenty of time to have free play to discover things on their own.

During the summer, we spend a lot of time outside.  The children love to go to the park and the zoo, when possible.  In addition to that we play in the water, use sidewalk chalk and go on walks.  We do still do some preschool stuff, but it is on a smaller scale.

The children are having fun with the large lego's.
This is a picture of the play room.  This is where the children are free to explore in a safe environment.  The loft is the  quiet reading area.
This is a picture of journal time.  The children get time everyday to "write" in their journals.  Somtimes I give them ideas and sometimes I just have them do whatever they want in them.
