 THE SILER ROLL 1851(#7RA-06)

Click to see larger version of Siler Roll entries.

One roll not many look at is the SILER ROLL of 1851. It contains a listing of 1,700 Cherokees in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. The persons contained on this list were entitled to payment in means to the acts of Congress in 1850 and 1851. Many of the Cherokee did not want to take part in any of the government doings and refused to accept payment. The Siler Roll contains both Indian names and English names. The persons are listed by Last name first, First name followed by their Siler Number. During the time of the Siler Roll another roll was also being done. Which brings us to the next roll:

THE OLD SETTLER ROLL 1851 (M-685) described in lesson #1.

Did you have family living in Oklahoma already? Family that was not part of the Cherokees removed from their homelands? These listed on the Old Settler Rolls are of the Cherokee people already living in Oklahoma and still living in 1851. The roll gives you the following information. Payment , each person by district with their children .One should note that if the mother was an emigrant she and her children will be listed on the Drennen Roll.

Again, Bob Blankenship has put together a two-book set of the rolls. He has made them very easy to use and are a good reference to have in your home library. They are as follows.

Cherokee Roots Volume 1 & 2:

Next lesson I am going to cover the Intruders in the Indian Territory. There are records of them.
