This website is about the Chinese Fuzhou (Foochow) in Sibu in particular and in Sarawak in general. It is also about the success and the plight of the Fuzhou all over the world. Fuzhou resources such as Fuzhou associations and websites are included too.

It came into being because of the desire of the author to know and to share knowledge about the Fuzhou people. The desire to know more about the Fuzhou people began when he was sent to Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah in Kuching to study. The college has students from all over Sarawak and there were very few Fuzhou students around. There were even less Fuzhou teachers. Being Fuzhou and non-Chinese educated, he has few Chinese friends because of difficulty in communicating with them. This environment created a feeling of loneliness and longing for Fuzhou friends, thus triggering a strong urge to know more about his own people, the Fuzhou.

Since then, the author has being searching for material to research about the Fuzhou people. The limited number of books on the history of Sibu and the Fuzhou were read. Books on the overseas Chinese in Asia were also researched. Material on the Fuzhou were also searched from the internet but the search had not been very successful. It did not yield very much material of use to the author.

Having said that, the author felt that he might not be alone out there who faced the same difficulty in obtaining material on the Fuzhou in English. As such, the author through this website, is hopeful that he is able to share, though limited, useful information on the Fuzhou Chinese which he has collected with those who are desirious of them.
