The Story ofThe Nutcracker
The Story of
The children's Godfather, Dr. Drosselmeir, arrives and
presents Clara with a fabulous Nutcracker doll.
Filled with jealousy, Fritz grabs the doll and throws
it to the floor. Godfather Drosselmeir comforts Clara
and does his best to mend the broken Nutcracker.
The guests depart and the family retires for the
evening.
Later, Clara quietly returns to the drawing room
to retrieve her precious Nutcracker. She becomes
drowsy and falls asleep in the room.
Clara is awakened by the sound of the huge clock
striking twelve. Suddenly, the room is filled with
mice and soldiers doing battle and led by the
Nutcracker, himself! Finally, fearing for her poor
Nutcracker, Clara throws her shoe and defeats the
giant Mouse King and his army.
The Nutcracker leads Clara through an Enchanted Snowy Forest,
pausing to meet the Snow King and Queen, and continues until
they arrive at the Land of Sweets.
There, they are greeted by the Sugar-Plum Fairy. A grand
ceremony, in Clara's honor, is held and she is entertained
with numerous dances.
Finally, the Sugar-Plum Fairy and her Cavalier perform a
sparkling "dance for two" and Clara's magical journey comes
to an end.
