SEE RESPONSE BELOW----25 years ago I was born into the light of the Almighty Latin king Queen Nation. I read your page and I agree with you 100%. Gangs have become a serious problem in our community. But pe ple such as yourself and the media seem to care about the gang problem because it is begining to effect John and sally's suburban neighborhood and I can honestly say that I hope lil white kids keep on shooting up their lil white school so we can see who the true animals are. Black and Latino kids dont shoot up schools or their office. I do not see the justice in labeling our most holy nation, the Almighty Latin King Nation a gang when we are trying to uplift the communities in which we live. Most of our critics have never lived on our blocks or walked our streets. Therefore you canno judge us. No one ever mentions the food drives we have or the rules we have regarding eduction or the money we donate to charity or anyother thing we do that displays the true essence of our Nation. I go to college, support my children, work and teach GE classes. I do not go around shooting houses or innocent children. I love all children for they are the future. However my brothers and I are labeled as gang bangers and are forced to spend Wed through Mon evening in our homes for if we are seen on the st eets after 7pm we will be arrested. How is that legal. The police can treat us however they want and we can't say anything about it- FUCK that! Our voices will be heard and the Beast will be exposed for what he is. And whats with calling the Trench Coat M fia a clique- they fit the definition of a gang better than we do.

RESPONSE TO KING NENE: In my 21+ years of working with offenders, both in gangs and not, I have rarely come across a gang member who possesses a community s cial conscience. I applaud your desire to give back to the community in ways that deviate from the gang norm. Unfortunately many gang members do not think as you do and their actions will tend to have law enforcement and the public at large, recoil in dis ay and disapproval. Instinct tells me that if I see a car drive by filled with Crips all "G'd Up", there's a good chance that they are not on their way to church choir practice. It goes back to the old phrase: "your reputation precedes you." To illustrate this...I live near a restaurant where on any given Sunday between 500 to 800 motorcycle enthusiasts meet to look over each other's machines, have breakfast, talk, etc. This informal gathering has been going for over 15 years and is self regulated. The cyc ists usually drive Harley Davidsons or other large bikes and are made up of doctors, lawyers, businesspersons, factory workers, students,etc. There are also present, members of motorcycle gangs as well. My point is this; if 10 individuals create havoc, or break the law during this gathering, the other 790 cyclists will be labeled (incorrectly) as troublemakers and therefore may cause a rush to judgement. You on the other hand, have been placed in a unique position. If there are 10 Latin Kings with a social and moral conscience and the other 790 Latin Kings are gangmembers that break the law, sell drugs, commit shootings, etc., one may see that you have an uphill battle with any public approval. In the Midwest there were attempts to "Legitimize" specific gan nations to the point of seeking state charters as not-for-profit organizations. The initial intentions were noble, unfortunately gang leaders were quick to line their own pockets with the coffers of state supported funds. Indictments were handed down, an people were jailed, charters voided. For the most part, gang members whether from the city of suburbs (not a new phenomenon---gangs in the suburbs where I work have been around since 1978) usually obtain their status and their funding by less than honora le means. I for one would like to see a change. One place which could be a start would be a website that reports the GOOD contributions that the Latin King in your area have performed. Many of the gang websites I have visited lack that. Visit http://www.g ocities.com/SouthBeach/Bluffs/3071 and you'll see what I mean. Lastly, if you carefully read my website, I do not call the Trenchcoat Mafia a clique, but what it truly was, a gang. Best luck in your studies, and God Bless. -Steven Sachs
