OPERA BITS N' PICS

I had a thought to make this page
a receptacle for pictures
and a few facts that I have accumulated
on various Opera singers
that I have heard and admired,
and whose singing and acting ability delights me!
I have no knowledge
of the technical side of the voice.
All I am concerned with,
is how it sounds, and the pleasure
it gives to me.
I never realized that there were
Opera Videos until the late 80s. Until then,
I had always listened to records,
mostly LPs and 45s.I was thrilled
when my daughter brought home
La Traviata one day, and I
could actually see the whole Opera
being acted out as well as beautifully sung!
Since then, we have collected many Opera Videos,
and enjoy playing them over and over.

Pres. and Mrs. Clinton attended
the Met's opening night
performance of Carmen Sept.22,
and met afterward with the artists.
Lined up, with the Clintons
in the center are---
(l to r) director Franco Zefferelli,
Gino Quilico(Escamillo),
Norah Amsellem(Micaela),
Placido Domingo(Don Jose),
Denyce Graves(Carmen),
conductor James Levine,
and gen. manager Joseph Volpe.

Rise Stevens as Octavian
in Der Rosenkavalier
Born in 1913, this Mezzo Soprano
had a warm and beautiful voice!
She was most popular
during the '40s and 50s.

This is a photo of Rise Stevens in Carmen
To me, she was the best "Carmen" ever!!
