THE ROBERT MONROE MYSTERY

ROBERT MONROE'S roots appear to be a mystery. There are those in the family who believe he is the son of William Monroe of Lunenburg County, VA. Robert was born sometime around 1763. On December 14, 1786 he married Jannie Puckett. The mystery is....at the time of their marriage, four of Robert's children were already born! Or, were they even Robert's children? Could Jannie have brought these four children to the marriage? Could these four be the offspring of one of Robert or Jannie's siblings? And to broaden the mystery even farther, what happened to Jannie?
Robert moved his family to Grainger County, TN sometime around 1792. According to Robert's will, his wife's name was Rosannah Puckett. No one has found any mention of what became of poor Jannie or if Jannie and Rosannah could be one and the same.
For this rendition, I am assuming Rosannah and Jannie are the same person and that she and Robert are the parents of the nine children listed below. I do not swear this to be gospel truth, it just seems to be the easiest way of listing all the descendants. Robert did claim the oldest children as his in his will, so at least we know the affection was there, if not the blood ties.
