Eight children born between 9-1-1870 and 8-8-1881. Names Jessie(male), Laura, William, Harry(my g-grandfather), Lilly, Frank, Charles, and Carrie Bell. Loved the rendition of "Scotland the Brave". Have you ever visited Scotland? Iwell remember arriving at Dumfriess Railway Station at 2am. The first thing that catches the eye is a memorial to the fallen of The King's Own Scottish Borderers" on which several of our clan are listed. It is also grea to be in a place where they don't ask how to spell your name! It is eerie to walk the lanes and byways around Carrutherstown and visit small churches and discover many tombstones bearing your own name. For your researches: in the Dumfriess Public Libra y there is a copy of a book entitled,"The Carruthers Family"- I obtained a photocopy in 1968 but it went missing in one of my many moves. Glen, I have just started searching for infromation about my father's family. I have very little to go on! I knew my grandfather, Jack! He died circa 1951 in Maitland NSW Australia! The town started in 1829 and there is evidence of Rob't Jas Carruthers, a draper and H W Carruthers, squatter in the 1874 post office role of the town. Are you aware of Carruthers movement from the UK to Australia? I have some good information about my mother's side but nothing on my father's. He died in 1964 when I was only 15! My grandfather had brothers but I only know of one(1), Herby! He died in the 1960's. Herbies sone Kieth is still going and there are two(2) sisters who are cosuins of my father, Edna & Beryl who are still going (just). I have asked them questions but hey don't seem to know or are unwilling to tell! That happens sometimes. I'll be interested in anything you may have!

I saw one of your postings on the Casselman forum of Genforum.com I thought I would check out your site to see if you had any information for me. My Casselman line is from South Carolina. I have traced it, with help, to John Baltzegar Casselman in Sout Carolina but I haven't found anything further. You probably didn't know that Cruthirds is derived from Caruthers. One of the first mentions of the name is in court records in South Carolina. I think that family came from North Carolina, however I'm lost around there. Just thought I'd give you something else to ponder.

Read your Shearer connection with great interest..."My" 4 Shearer brothers came in 1740 to america. It is said that they came after a short stay in Northern Ireland but their Scotish connection is misplaced. Their names were William Christian I,John,Georg and James I. I was going through the web site looking for my ancesters when i came across your name several times.I have looked through here at all the Carruthers and to much no avail got back to square one.I did find on the desendants of John Carruthers about 1665-1 44 the name Mary Carruthers abt 1925 this is the same name as my mother and the year she was born.
