LYING LIPS AND DECEITFUL HEARTS

By Neal Griffin

Psalms 59:l2-l3
For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more.

Psalms 119:29
Keep me from lying ways; be gracious to me through your law.

Psalms 119:l63
I hate and abhor lying but I love your law.

Psalms 120:2
Save me O Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.

Proverbs 6:l6-l7
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Revelation 2l:8
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, Those who practice magic arts, the idolaters, and all liars---their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.

Some Scriptural passages require little comment, and such is the case with the above readings. One observation would, however, be in order at this point, and that is the contextual setting of "liars" and "lying". The message should be clear to all thinking men that God lumps lying in the same category as murder and idolatry. The sinner who continually lies will suffer the same eternal fate as the murderer, the idol worshipper, and the unbeliever, because lying lips are the result of a deceitful heart. Out of the mouth proceedeth the issues of the heart. Luke 6:45. This is Bible talk. You can trust it. It is easy to understand. It is too simple to be misunderstood.

My brethren, if we are in the habit of lying, we need to change our ways. We need to repent. I beg you by the tender mercies of Jesus to give serious consideration to these thoughts. I believe them to be true to the Word.
