I have been researching the descendants of Joseph Parish who came to Bedford County, Virginia from England. His descendants (at least the ones that I know about) left Virginia for Kentucky and finally settled in Missouri. The chart below is a brief outline of connected family members. One note - a handwritten genealogy (see below) from around 1880 gives the name of one of Joseph's sons as "Berry". The writer says that he was killed by lightning. That record also says that Berry's son was named Berry and that Berry Jr's last known location was around the Green River area of Kentucky. This information matches the information for the Littleberry Parrish family of Bedford County, Virginia and his son, Littleberry Parrish of Hardin County, Kentucky. I know the LDS records gives the elder Littleberry's father as Alexander, but I don't consider them to be accurate in this case. Please also note the time difference between Peyton Leftwich Parrish, the son of Joseph (b. 1794, the first child of the family to be born in Kentucky) and Payton L. Parrish, the youngest child of William (b. 1856 in Greene County, Missouri). Some people get them confused.

Much of this information is from the collection of Parrish papers and memorabilia in the Springfield, Missouri History Museum. Other information comes from original probate records found in the Greene County Archives. The staff of the History Museum, Greene County Archives, Missouri State Archives, and the Springfield Library have been very helpful to me in my research. I'm also grateful for other researchers who have contacted me and helped me to expand my family lines. I'm always looking for more leads.
Around 1880, Dr. Horatio Parrish wrote some notes on family history for his daughter, Mary Bell Parrish Adams, who was trying to join Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). He began one page with these words, "My GGFather Joseph Parrish [was] from England; my GGMother Parrish, an Irish Lady." And so begins the tale of a new American family line that spread from England and Ireland to Virginia, Kentucky, and into Missouri.
