Enjoy the this site very much. It brings back memories of time I spent at my Great Uncle Cripple Hosea Lewing's home as a child. Each summer from 1939 thru 1945 I would spend 3>4 weeks with them. Idel & Joble {we called him
Joe Bell] were teen agers. Was there when Reds
wife and two little boys stayed with Uncle hose
and Aunt Dicie while Red was gone to War. Always the location was different from the year before.
I would sit for hours and listen to tales and stories of our ancestors. He would tell of going to Scottland as a young man. He had a trunk full of documents, letters, Spanish land grants treasure maps. Most were on parchment paper and had been written in
ink and Quil. Some were in rolls and on what seemed to me as a child to leather. I just assume they were chamy skin. The greatest object was a leather bound hand written diary. He would read from it to me and explain who the people were. To hear him de
cribe our native land of Scottland was an ausome thing to
a small boy who worshiped His Uncle Hose. I remember well my grandmother Exie Lewing and the red headed lady who lived with Joe and Exie Brown
She called me Joseph. I also remember one statement she used to make. ""Iam Shanty Irish
and Dam proud of it. The Lewing history is filled with many types of people, From Preacher , to singers to Horse traders, and maybe a robber or murderer some where along the way. If you lived in Shreveport as a baby My dad and I came to your house once
hen you were a baby.
