Northampton County was formed in 1752 from the original county of Bucks. It comprised, what today, are the counties of Northampton, Monroe, Pike, Wayne, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Luzerne, Carbon, Lehigh and a portion of Schuylkill.

Pike County was created in 1814 from Wayne County.

Monroe County formed from parts of Pike and Northampton Counties in 1836.
