Jade's Puppies

The day they were born.

On Sunday 19 July Jade, Yarrowfell Upper Crust, went into labour and delivered 10 puppies. The father of the litter was Titus, Yarrowfell Supadog.

The times and weights are:

Registered names are limited to 24 characters including the breeders prefix (Yarrowfell). We name each litter after a different letter of the alphabet in turn - this litter is the "X" litter making it the 24th we have bred. In Australia the name once provided can never be changed so this name will stay with each of the puppies for the rest of their lives (apart from the addition of titles such as Champion, CD etc).

The names come from a piece of coloured wool we tie around the neck of each puppy at birth. This allows us to keep track of the growth and development of each pup until they get their spots (Dalmatians are born covered in white hair only).

At seven weeks (photos above) the eight puppies typically consume the following in a day:

Breakfast: Porridge made with 1.5 litres of milk and sweetened with honey
Lunch: Supercoat Puppy (about four double handfuls) soaked in water then mixed with either a can of PAL puppy food or a big can of pilchards in aspic
Dinner: 500g of chicken mince mixed with 125g of macaroni cooked in stock and stirred into two double handfuls of Supercoat Puppy
Supper: 12 eggs scrambled in 2 litres of milk

Notice the wire around the edge of the basket - this is to stop them chewing it into small pieces!
