Your web site is beautiful. We have a wonderful Elkhound named Genesis and another pup on the way. He moves in around Halloween and is one week old today. Genesis is the love of my life. I have had other dogs that I have also equally enjoyed, but my hu band says no other has captured my heart the way she has. She is quite the mother-hen over our son's pet hedgehogs. They snuggle right up to her. She also has more toys than God, thus, forcing me to return to work to support her toy habit!! :-)

Hi I enjoyed your site. We got our 1st. elkhound in May 1999. We lost our Golden Retreiver to cancer that May and our Vet. recommended an elkhound because I wanted a healthy, problem & disease free breed of dog. Katy's MISTY Morning came home with us on May 15, 1999 and is the love of our lives. I have been an obedience trainer for 35 years so she learned little things at 8 weeks old. She has been thru classes and is doing great. She loves everyone including my grandchildren and even our 31 year old c t. I have been taking her to visit a nursing home since she was 10 weeks old and the patients love petting her and she is very gentle. My Golden visitied the nursing home 2 1/2 years before her death. I would love to hear from other elkie people around I linois

Hello, I have a problem. My elkhound is very sweet and loving in the home, but he escapes from time to time, and he does not let us come near him without growling and scaring us. I thought he would attack me the last time this happened. He does not respond to us when we call his name. He acts like he does not even know us. We are never mean to the dog. We don't believe in violence to animals. My wife and I do not want to have to put the dog asleep. He is a member of the family. Please, if anyone has any uggestion, let us know about it. Thanks.

I thought I knew animals, cats and dogs like German Shepherds, Collies and Lab Retrievers. We've had Gus since he was eight weeks old andhave realized that we have a dog who is as intelligent as any other dog we've owned, and believe me we've had some a esomely intelligent dogs. However Gus' intelligence is of a different kind. He displays an independence of mind that makes him hard in some ways to train. When we take him to the vet for his monthly weigh in he leads us to the weighing room, sits down o the scale until he judges he's been there long enough. Sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong but he will suffer being put back so that scale can register correctly. But after that his attitude is: "let's get the hell out of here." If something lse has to happen like maybe his yearly shots he is outraged as though his personal dignity has been seriously affronted. His independence of mind really intrigues me and I want to know how best to relate to him, to read him and to make sure he he has a happy a life as I can give him.

My family adopted an Elkie about 2 months ago sort of my accident. One of the best accidents we've ever had. She is a great dog. I started looking for Elkhound sites after we got her because I wanted to know what to expect from our new pet. She is soo o good and has adjusted to our house very easily. She has more freedom here than at the other place so she his happier. But then there is the cats.......That is something new to her, but she is learning. Excellent website! Inga will be 2 in a few months, and has really livened up the household. One day when she was quite young, my husband and I were watching a TV program about wolves when we realized that Inga was also watching intently. Soon after tha , she started howling like a wolf if I was too slow in preparing her supper or somebody was reading when she thought she should be given a biscuit. She's a great hiker and loves racing around the yard with her best friends, an English Setter and a Scotti . She also loves meeting people, and is very affectionate. Elkhounds are sometimes a challenge, but when our previous one, Tanya, died, we realized that our family is not complete without an Elkhound.

Hi Marj-Great website-I was just browsing and came across your page. I am impressed!! Steve and I moved to Calgary in June-no jobs in BC Tye is doing well-all 70 lbs of him! Boy does he have a weight problem-he is walked 45 min. daily (very briskly) and he is still a lardo. Just had surgery on his neck (4" incision ) to remove a subcutaneous cyst which kept filling. Had a couple of externa cysts or tags removed as well - he came through surgery okay. He is enjoying life here in Calgary-I think he will like the winters better due to the colder weather and SNOW!!!!! What is that white stuff! Never had that much IN CHWK. I am glad to hear all is well with you-I would dearly love to get another Elkhound but Steve would divorce me!! I had to fight tooth and nail to get the latest addition to our menage. A 1/12 year female tabby, due to be destroyed the day after I adopted her at the SPCA-she is y Abbey-just now starting to come out of her shell-a real sweetie-she too is recovering from her spaying. Two invalids-mind you they are both doing well. They even tolerate each other-Tye is used to cats as we have another one named Smudge (had her from a kitten). He is such a good boy-loves to talk to us and totally dedicated to me. He is usually in the same room as me or area of the house-I enjoy his company. So very well put: once an Elkhounder, always an Elkhounder. When I was kid in Illinois in 1959, we got a lovely purebred Elkhound, Ellie. She was always the most intelligent, most dignified member of the whole family. In 1970, she finally wandered off into the San Gabriel Mountains near LA, and disappeared. I have never wanted any other breed since (al hough I live in Taiwan, where it is too hot for the magnificent beasts.) It was great to see your page. Thanks a lot.

I love Norwegian Elkhounds! When my family and I got Mookie from the Humane Society, all her card said was that she was a German Sheperd mix. She was so sweet so we adopted her. We never knew what the other half of her was until, one day at school, I w s looking through a book of dogs and saw a picture of a Norwegian Elkhound. It looked EXACTLY like Mookie exept for the coloring and the tail which were the parts of German Sheperd in her. I had never heard of Norwegian Elkhounds, so I thought it would e hard to find things about them, but I kept looking. Surprisingly, I found a book on them in the library a couple of weeks ago. I was so happy! Then, I found this website and it is GREAT!! Keep up the good work!

Dear Marj, We still can't see Turi. Our programmer had a look at your code, and says thast your image source code needs IMG added. Also there is a space before turi,jpg. What a wonderful site! You really give the viewer the feeling that you have invited them into your home and your life! There really is a special touch you have, and is not present in other's websites. And I am not saying this just because I too have a cat named Bob that was wild and now helps me raise my puppies! My bob is an orange tabby. I found him at 4 weeks old, wilder than you can imagine! Once tamed though, I am his best friend-for life. Bob is always present during whelping time.
