The Dudley Family Tree
This is my mother's side of the family. They lived in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Indiana. The name Dudley comes from an old English word. The word for land or field was 'leigh' or 'lay'. Way long time ago, this man named Dudd owned all this land surrounding what is now the Dudley Castle. So, it was natural for people to say, Dudd's leigh or lay, thus, Dudley. I have not at this time been able to trace where our people exactly come from, it could be England.
