The Engeser/Engesser families originally came from southern Germany, Switzerland and Alsace/France.

The name is derived from a person who lived "in der engen Gasse" (in the narrow lane). It is documented for the first time in the 14th century. There also awarded a coat of arms to an Engesser family.
