Mental and Emotional Changes:

Depression, mood swings, and frank psychosis are common in Cushing's patients. They are often treated in a mental health setting long before their clinical condition is recognized. Suicide is far more common in these patients than in the general population. Other mental changes, such as forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, and making mistakes due to memory problems have been widely reported. Some people have lost jobs due to these cognitive changes. Marital, family, and social relationships suffer greatly from the depression and mood swings, often resulting in divorce and lost social contacts. A friend or significant other's rejection of the Cushing's sufferer due to the drastic physical changes only fuels the victims depression. At a time when acceptance and shows of affection are most needed, often these things are withdrawn.
