George W. BRIGHT, 1900 Los Angeles, California BRIGHT
Searching for this family, mystery cousins from my mother’s
maternal side, linked to either GOINGS or KING. who also
came to California early this century from Mississippi via Texas. George W. BRIGHT was born ca. 1870 in Texas or
Mississippi. He appears in the 1900 and 1910 in Los Angeles.
He joined the Los Angeles Fire Department in 1900 (appears in the
department yearbook for 1900) and eventually achieved the rank of
Captain. The last directory listing I have for him is 1918. He was married to Lillian SMITH (b. 1883, Mississippi; d. ? Los
Angeles, CA?) They had one son, Lawrence George BRIGHT (b.
July 24, 1899, Texas - d. December 26, 1971) I have seen a
photograph of Lilian and the infant Lawrence taken in Oklahoma.
Lilian was extremely lightskinned and my aunt remembers Lawrence as
being the same. Lawrence George BRIGHT was a painter, and a car mechanic. When
his cousin, Geneva (Jennie) GOINGS married Columbus MORRIS he was one of
the witnesses. He married Clotilde FRANCO, who was of Mexican
descent. They had a number of children, who I have listed
