Members of Jubilation Quartet, as with many gospel singers, all grew up singing in their local churches. All grew up in Christian homes with parents seeing that they were in church at the appropriate times and like Ronnie Simmons, the bass singer, says, “My testimony is that I went to church nine months before I was born”. That is a true statement for all the guys making up the group.
![]() | Joe Simmons, a true baritone and wonderful Christian, now works for Trademark Motor Company, McComb, Mississippi, and is a charter member of Jubilation. His voice is smooth, mellow, and convicting as he renders his version of old popular songs from the past, such as “The Lighthouse” or a new exciting song written by Buddy Watts called “He’s Alive”. He genuinely provides a strong and solid baritone with which to build great traditional four part harmony and can provide a lead voice at any moment. Joe has two wonderful grandchildren of which he is very proud. He gets tagged with being the “old man” of our group, yet he really isn’t much older than the rest of the group (or is he?). |
![]() | Ronnie Simmons, Joe’s son, (not really, they’re first cousins) provides a bass that is always there and in perfect pitch. Ronnie is also a charter member of Jubilation. He’s a Delta State University Music Major and spent a few years as a band director before getting into sales. Ronnie has been a key to Jubilation’s close harmonies and success in dynamically delivering a song. His teaching and perfecting of the group’s recordings and performances has been truly appreciated by all who listen with a “trained” ear. Ronnie is greatly appreciated by followers of Jubilation as a Christian gentleman and his stage presence is wonderful as he usually keeps the performances “upbeat” with joking and poking fun at Cousin Joe or another member of the group. His sincerity in presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ is beyond reproach. |
![]() | Charles Carruth is lead singer for Jubilation. He is a banker and grew up in church music. He has provided considerable leadership over the years as he is the other “charter member” of the group. He states that the closeness enjoyed by Christian brothers in performing gospel music is the most gratifying and thrilling means of worship. It is a privilege beyond imagination to stand before people and profess Jesus Christ as Lord and actually lead in a worship service. The responsibility is awesome, but what we are called to do. Charles grew up directing music in his home church at a very young age and has been singing and performing church music all his life. |
![]() | The newest member of Jubilation is Steve Miller, the tenor singer. We are completely thrilled by the Lord sending us this sweet spirited Christian gentleman. Steve is also a music major and his expertise adds so much to the learning of new songs. He is an emergency room registered nurse and therefore lends testimony to the power of prayer in healing and peace in times of trauma and loss of life. His approach to singing is total giving of one’s self and letting Jesus Christ take charge of a program. His delivery of a song is with total sincerity and submission to the Lord’s leadership. His voice has lended itself to the best quartet balance the group has experienced since its beginning. Steve is constantly standing with Jesus and projecting the power of prayer as the means to happiness and peace for all. He is a gifted tenor. |
Over the years, Jubilation has had few personality changes and the group
testifies that “practice makes perfect, but prayer is the perfect key every
time”. We are completely thankful that the Lord has given us the talent
and many opportunities to stand and testify for Him in song. As previously
stated, it is an awesome privilege to stand before men and declare that
Jesus is Lord and few have the privilege of doing it through music.
Jubilation has traveled only in four states and is a typical “part-time”
group, but very “full-time” in heart and dedication. The enthusiasm and
thrill of singing is stronger than ever after 21 years.
Only a few have written original music for the group over the years, but the group has been blessed to have both its former pianists, Buddy Watts, and Mickey Sandifer, along with his wife Joyce, write some
wonderful new music.
Many of Watts’ songs have been recorded by the group and recently one of his songs, “That Heavenly Road” was recorded by the Anchormen. Recently released, the group is anxious to see how well the song is received in major distribution with this fine professional group, The Anchormen. Mickey has written some fine upbeat songs which include a great one called “I’m Rejoicing”, which the group plans to record on its next project.
Songs written by Joyce include a great testimony of the worship experience called “I Tasted Heaven”, which tells how the Lord gives each of us a very small glimpse of heaven occasionally, and an absolutely great new one called “Forever Lord”, which is a great new praise song amplifying the
power of God from creation to the present day.
