Abstract:
A youth named Javan follows a dream to pursue membership in an elite, highly-regarded Order of Knights military group. Setting is medieval/fantasy. Javan (a young teenager) is suffering identity crisis, lack of self-confidence, and other common teenage issues.
While setting out to seek out this order of knights, he is distracted by a store owner, while a thief steals his horse. However, far from the naive easy mark, he catches up with the thief. This thief, Hogarth Bivek, is an orphan, and they strike an agreement that the thief will pay back his deed in service to the man. Thus begins a shaky relationship, because Hogarth plans on going back on his word. However, he is ensnared in a life of integrity, honor, duty, and commitment, and becomes a loyal (knight's servant - what's the word?), friend, and confidante.
The story chronicle's Javan's development, coming from a very self-deprecating and often depressing mindset, to one of confidence, optimism, faith, and steel discipline. All this is because of the tenets of the Order, and the mentorship of the teachers, and through many self-realizations that hold true for all humans, in the past, for now, and in the future. In addition, it chronicles the growth of Hogarth out of a life of loneliness and struggle, into one of friendship and devotion.
From a fearful, unhappy youth, Javan grows to become the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of the Order of Ki, with the companionship of his friend Hogarth.
Organizations:
Knights of the Order of Ki | Ki is a word with many meanings and nuances. In general, it refers to the Life Force that members of this order believe every living thing is imbued with. This Life Force is a force of nature. The goal of a Knight of Ki is to seek for constant striving to understand Ki, to embrace it, to accept it, and to use it in all actions, thoughts, and words. The four legs that form the Ki "table of life" are Love, Honor, Integrity, and Discipline. The fighting abilities of the Knights are legendary, because it seems they wield magical powers. However, the fighting ethics consider actual physical combat as a last resort, as a failure of all else that is taught. The use of force is actually a rare event in the life of a Knight of Ki. |
People:
Javan | A medium-height, stocky kid of 15, with dark brown hair that likes to stick out in one spot. His light-brown eyes are always shifty, tend to look down, but burn with an intensity at times that is surprising. He starts out a youth running away from himself, uncomfortable with who he is, and not liking himself. He has vague ideals of what the Knights of Ki are all about, and thinks he should be that way, but finds himself far short of his ideals. He has dropped his family name, because he wants nothing to do with them. Thus begins his struggle. |
Hogarth Bivek | As long as he can remember, Hogarth has always been an orphan. He grew up struggling to get a meal each day, until he was taken in "under the wing" of a local brigand named Vladem Neek. Vladem taught him all manner of deception, beguile, and stealth, and kept him in an iron grip of control, along with Vladem's other children that worked the seedy parts of the city. |
Vladem Neek | Although he calls himself the "Prince of Thieves," he is referred to in private as the Tyrant. With a very cynical outlook on life, he was beaten by his parents until he was old enough to leave. He quickly found that he could take advantage of other people's weaknesses, which he had a knack for identifying. He has spent his time building up a "family" of children who steal for him, while he lives a rather squalid but baudy life. |
Baldor Ragenshield | Grand Chancellor of the Knights of the Order of Ki, Baldor is a man whose mission is to better the lot of Humanity by growing the Order. |
