THE CIGAR JOURNAL

PURPOSE: The purpose of this page is to record differences between cigars and the special tastes that each one has. While smoking a cigar is an art and must be done with care and adherance to tradition and ediquitte, we care nothing of that! I cant lie to lie you. We are doing it because it is fun and yes trendy (now is that so bad?). Reguardless of why we all have startted, we all want to experience a number of different cigars and be able to recall what make each cigar we have ever had special. Below we hope to record not only the impersonal statistics of a cigar, but also the occasion on which it is smoked. According to my own scale, the environment in which you smoke a cigar has more of an impact than the specific flavors of that cigar. So the moral of this story is not to sit in a closet and smoke a cigar, but enjoy life be with friends... with a stoaggy in your hand of course.

To Participate: To post a cigar you tried, just send me E-Mail with a scanned cigar-band as well as description/critique of that cigar. I will post it.

SAMPLE ENTRY:

La Flor Dominicana Belicoso El Maury Reserva Especial

This cigar has a golden brown color. The taste is woody, leathery, and spunky with and earthy spiciness. A medium bodied smoke that will improve with and earthy spiciness. I have never seen a better looking guy on a cigar band in my life!

Cohiba Robustos

Maury (Early March 1997)
$30 Cigar!?! WOW! Yeah I had one! Very good too. Had I nice mint taste to it. Very little smoke when it is not being puffed on. I smoked it in honor of my first son Jackson being born. This cigar lasted at least 30 minutes! My first REAL Cuban.

Cohiba Robustos

Karl (Early February 1997)
Ahhh, A real cuban. A very nice sales person in Miami introduced me to these babies as we left our 4 kids at his house, while we hit the strip. Incrediable, lovely taste, cool burning, wonderfull aftertaste. This cigar went well with martini's, a perfect complement to a fine cigar.

Bandero

Karl (April 1997)
I should have known better. I'm at OP golf course pulling the cart in from my round, to find the cart in front of me with two of these just sitting in thier wrappers. I took one and tried it on the way home. I should have let it lie where it was.

Wonder Blend

Karl (Early April 1997)
I have a search ongoing, to find an inexpensive cigar $2 or less, that is enjoyable. I found this brand at K-Mart and tried a pack of 6 for $1.79 WonderBlends. They were so bad I threw the whole pack away after about 6 puffs, they burned so hot and tasted so terrible I was sick. Then I tried the hand rolled from the Domincan Republic ones. They are $6 for 6 of them, about 6 inches long and 41 on the ring gauge. I found them mild and smooth, approaching what I'm looking for. I feel they are a VERY good VALUE, excellent for taking golfing when you are bound to give some away.

Wonder Blend

Karl Gave this Bad boy to me. He said he got it from Kmart. I believe him. I just did not realize that Karl knew how to make cigars out of the brown paper bags that he gets from Kmart. Maybe it was because the cigar was already too dry by the time I smoked it, but for future reference I think I would get more enjoyment from that cigar if I used it as kendeling to start a fire on a cold winter night. Just to be fare though Karl did like this cigar and I am anxious to see why.

Rowe-Manse
Found this one at the Sandstone Cigar Stand during the Bush concert. They had the nerve to charge $7 a peice, I feel its worth $1.50. It is a nice cigar, cool and mild hand rolled in Honduras. They said this is a new cigar on the market and they pronounced it 'romance'. Try it if you find one at a reasonable price....Update, just called a local shop and they told me they are 'bundeled' (or seconds to you and me) from a major manufacture, price $1.76, his rating, not bad.

Havana MIST HUMIDOR!!!

This is no cigar band, this is the humidor that Rex got Jeff and I. Rex's wife got us a real good deal on these things for about half of what we could get them for at any cigar stores.

Thanks again Rex and Teri

PAPAYO CIGAR

Maury (dont remember when I smoked this one)

I got this from a coworker who was passing them out to celabrate his first child. On such an occasion I can find it in my heart to really critique this cigar. It is a quick smoke and kinda skinny.

Flor De Jalapo

Maury 5-20-97

Mild taste no too bad. $2.70

Centinnial

Maury Mid May 1997

Was not that impressed. It didnt taste that good and only lasted for about 15 minutes. Kinda quick for a 5 1/4 inch robusto

Puros Indios

Maury Mid May 1997

I really like this one. Had a very distinct sweet taste to it. I look forward to trying it again. I still need to look at more cigars before I concider this one my 'favorite'. The exact type of cigar it was is a Puros Indios No. 4 Especial. 5.5 in. length and 44 on the ring guarge.
