We have a very large family, ma sha' Allah. Our parents were Kazi Abdur Rasheed and Muneerunnisa
Begam, may Allah grant them the choicest place in the Jannatul Firdaus. A brief
list of our ancestors is as follows:
- Kazi Abdur Rasheed (27/7/1921 - 12/2/1982),
(married Muneerunnisa Begam, daughter of Syed
Muhammad Hussain). He is buried at the Army Graveyard in Karachi, opposite the Finance
& Trade Centre Building; son of
- Kazi Zainul Abedin (8/12/1892-1962), (the last Qazi of
Udgir, married Sahibni Begam or Pasha Begam, daughter of Syed Mahmood Pasha Qadri of
Tekmal. He migrated to Pakistan in 1949 after the fall of Hyderabad State to the invading
Indian troops. There he settled in Mirpurkhas and managed farmlands, a flourmill and a
printing press until his death. He is buried at the Abedin Farms in Mirpurkhas), son of
- Kazi Badruddin Hussain, also known as Saeeduddin (married Rahimunnisa, daughter of
Muhiuddin Pasha), son of
- Kazi Afzaluddin Alauddin (d. 1886) (married daughter of Kazi Muneeruddin of Parbhani),

- Kazi Badruddin Khan (1796-1842) (joint Qazi of Udgir with his elder brother Kazi
Azimuddin Khan until 1822. He then remained Na'ib Qazi of Udgir until his death), son of

- Kazi Asaduddin Shamsuddin (d. 1789), son of
- Kazi Shaykh Muhiuddin Ahmad (Qazi of Rajwara, who also became Qazi of Udgir through
marriage with the daughter of the previous Qazi of Udgir - Kazi Khayrullah Jan Muhammad

Kazi Mohammed Zainul Abedin
Born on 8th of December 1892 (4th of Bahman, 1302 fasli)
at Parbhany, Hyderabad State, Kazi Mohammed Zainul Abedin was the only son of Kazi
Mohammed Badruddin Hussain and Rahimunnisa Begam. He was the last of the series of qazis
of Udgir in District Bidar, Hyderabad State.
Kazi Zainul Abedin acquired his basic education in Arabic, Persian and English,
following the Dars-e-Nizamiya. He is the second person in the entire family to have ever
learnt the English language. He then completed his Matriculation from Bombay University
during 1910-1912. It is reported that he used to be ill most of the time during this
period. Therefore, he reverted to Hyderabad and took admission at the Nizam College, from
where he completed his Intermediate in 1915. That same year, he sat for the Hyderabad
Civil Service (H.C.S.) examination, and stood first in the competition. He entered the HCS
in 1916.
His first posting was for revenue training in Akola and Amraoti. In subsequent years,
he passed the departmental examination of C.P. and Berars, and stood first in Berars in
the Revenue Higher Examination. He then passed the Judicial Higher examination with
credit, and the Accounts Higher and Survey Higher exams as well. Amongst the vernacular
languages, he gained proficiency in Marhatti, and passed the Marhatti Written Test as
well.

Kazi Zainul Abedin was a poet in his own right, and has published his collection (diwan)
as well. He used to write under the pen-name (takhallus) of Abid. He has also
published many articles and is the author of the work "On Splendour of Ajanta
Caves".
