Dr. Kazi Taqiuddin Adil and family
- Dr. Kazi T. Adil
Born on July 23, 1950 (Shawwal 7, 1369) at Hyderabad, Dr. Kazi Taqiuddin Adil is the
second son and the third child of Kazi Abdur Rasheed
and Muneerunnisa Begum. He presently lives in
Karachi. He is married to Meenaz, and has three children: Yusaira, Ruhaifa and Nasir.
Dr. Adil is a cardiologist and a physician. Having acquired his Intermediate (F.Sc.)
education from St. Patrick's College in Karachi, he graduated from the Dow Medical
College, Karachi in 1975. He obtained his training in Internal Medicine from USA and
obtained his specialist education and qualifications in cardiology from the Cardiovascular
Institute (Brompton Hospital and London Heart) at London U.K.
Dr. Adil acquired his primary education at the Grammar School in Hyderabad until 1956,
when he joined St. Mary's School in Bellary in 2nd Standard in February 1957.
At the end of that year, when the family moved to Bangalore, Adil was admitted to St.
Joseph's European High School. Within a couple of months, he was admitted to the Lawrence
School of Lovedale at Ooty (a hill station mid-way between Bangalore and Madras) in the 3rd
Standard with a scholarship. Lawrence School was a boarding school and was considered to
be a premier institution in the region. After 3 years of study in the beautiful environs
of Ooty, Adil returned to Bangalore and rejoined St. Joseph's European High School in the
6th Standard in January 1961. He completed his Matric in December 1965 and his
PUC in June 1967 from the same school.
In July 1967, Adil migrated to Pakistan on an Emergency Certificate along with his
Nanima (maternal grandmother).
Adil joined St. Patrick's College in 1967. He had to repeat the 11th Grade,
since PUC is not recognized in Pakistan. This was a loss of one year. He was thus able to
complete his Intermediate (HSSC) in 1969 from the Karachi Board. He passed with a First
Class. He stood first in his class at St. Patrick's and the college awarded him with a
gold medal for his performance. His grades were very good, and therefore he was admitted
to the Dow Medical College on merit in 1969. The colleges were delayed that year due to
the political turmoil in Pakistan, with the change in government from Ayub Khan to Yahya
Khan, and the imposition of Martial Law.
The following years were difficult years in Pakistan. With Pakistan's defeat in war
against India in December 1971 and the loss of East Pakistan, the entire nation was
demoralized. Mr. Bhutto became the President of the country in December 1971, and the
social and political troubles continued. The schools and colleges were politicized,
leading to delays in the education and examinations. The medical schooling which should
have lasted 5 years took over 6 years to complete. Thus, Adil graduated as a doctor in
December 1975. He completed his house job from Civil Hospital, Karachi in the beginning of
1977, and then joined the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Karachi
as a resident medical officer.
In February 1978, Dr. Adil proceeded to Dublin, Ireland and joined St. James Hospital as
a senior house officer in Internal Medicine. Two years later, he returned to Karachi in
January 1980.
Dr. Adil and Meenaz were married on February 3, 1980 at Karachi. Shortly after their
marriage, they moved to Sharjah, U.A.E., where Dr. Adil worked at the Al-Qassimi Hospital.
During this period, Dr. Adil took two breaks away from the UAE. He then proceeded on to London, UK to
complete his training in Cardiology at the Brompton Hospital and Cardiothoracic Institute,
London in 1986. He then returned to Dubai and established his own private practice in
Dubai as a physician and cardiologist.
When Dr. Uzair was brought back to Pakistan on a stretcher from
the USA - terminally ill - in July 1988, Dr. Adil decided to return to Pakistan to be with
his brother, and care for him during those difficult days. He finally moved back with his
family to Karachi in December 1988, and has been living there since. He is now a well-respected Cardiologist in town and a
great support to the family at large in Karachi.
Meenaz and Dr. Adil have 3 children: Yusaira, Ruhaifa
and Nasir.
