BEHAVIORAL
PROTOCOL At a recent meeting of the House Committee and bartenders, the House Committee agreed to place an article in the Elks Call with regard to certain behavioral issues that should be addressed. Most are common sense but warrant an occasional reminder. 1. All members are expected to carry their membership cards that will allow access to the Rathskeller. If you don't use your card for entry and expect to be ringed in by a bartender, you are expected to sign the Guest Book. Additionally, it is disruptive to the bartender who is attempting to wait on bar patrons. If you bring a guest, he or she is expected to be signed in at the Guest Book by you, the member sponsor. You are the responsible party for this guest. These are the rules as outlined in our own By-Laws and House Rules. They also happen to be the rules of order as outlined under our Club License by the State Liquor Control Commission. If a bartender asks you or your guest(s) to sign the Guest Book for cause, please comply. The bar staff is trying to do its job as directed by the House Committee. 2. Please refrain from discussing Lodge business at the bar. There are committees in place to address any issue you may have. The bar is not the place for discussions of this type. Your concerns, comments and ideas are welcome at any scheduled House Committee meeting or Lodge meeting under the Good of the Order. 3. The bar staff has been instructed to be attentive to our patrons' liquor limitations. The bartender on duty is in charge of the bar at all times. His or her judgment is final and we would ask all patrons to be supportive. These are the most commonly heard concerns from our bar employees. They also happen to be some of the most difficult to enforce. The issue of signing the Guest Book has been going on forever, but it happens to be the law as it pertains to our liquor license and is clearly outlined in our By-Laws. A
number of surrounding
clubs have recently been penalized for failing to comply with guest
sign-in procedures.
