Al and Maudean

From a war to end all wars

Came a peace that changed all people

The handsome sailor, on leave from the sub

The beautiful wave out with the girls

Two people from vast worlds apart

From rural Mississippi she came

And urban California came he

Never could they have ever met

But the world, this war did change

And they were drawn together

To a club in New York City

Go away you drunken sailor said she

Not till you marry me said he

And on the heater down he sat

Time after time this scene was repeated

Till at last, she no longer resisted

Then Love grew and time stood still

Soon they walked down the aisle

At the Church 'round the Corner

And forever their fates were set

Her permission he had

But the Navy's did not

And AWOL he did go

After the honeymoon short

To the base he ran back

Just then the war it was over

Life took them on a merry ride

Across this country wide

From the west coast to the Keys

In two more wars, he would fight

While she at home would wait

Lovingly raising my Sister and I

When the family was grown

And scattered abroad

Retirement they enjoyed

One day, they left all and moved

To be near their children beloved

And so they, their grandchild could spoil

Though her bones they do ache

And his hearing's near gone

Quite a pair they still do make

And as the new millennium comes alive

They're on anniversary fifty five

Oh, it's wonderful to see love survive!

I Love you Mom and Dad!
