You are listening to "Wind Beneath My Wings"
(for IE users)
for by giving me my self-esteem my father has been the wind beneath
my wings and
has given me a priceless gift that lives on.
"ASK THE MAN THAT OWNS ONE"
September 24, 1912 - April 1, 1994. My Father was a Packard Master Mechanic and Service Manager for the local Packard Dealership, Canter's Arlington Motor Co. In 1953 he opened his own Business "Gene's Turnpike Garage", 24 Dutchess Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, New York and specialized in Packard Repairs. He retired from the Garage business in 1972 and went to work Part-Time as a Communications Clerk for the Dutchess County Department of Public Works where he was working at the time of his death in 1994. |
Come back and visit again as THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONTRUCTION.
I will soon add the history of "Gene's Turnpike Garage".
My Dad and Me - September 18, 1990
For Daddy: I NEVER GOT TO SAY GOODBYE
I never got to say goodbye that day
but then again angels never say good bye for the last time.
They are always there to light the way,
resting on your shoulder as you drive the narrow line,
Lord, why did he have to go with you,
without me knowing what to do?
Love you Daddy,You're always here,
with your hand on mine as I try to steer.
Since you've gained your crown, I pray for mine.
Life seems to be this narrow line.
But as I drive this narrow road,
I feel your presence as I grow old.
Love you Daddy,You're always here,
with your hand on mine as I try to steer.
As I drive this narrow road with you to guide as I steer,
my only regret bears down with a solemn tear.
Could not I have found a Man of His Word like you,
who when he spoke the words forever, Alice knew that they were true.
Love you Daddy, You're always here,
with your hand on mine as I try to steer.
The road gets narrower, The lights grow dim,
The fuel in the tank is low, my engine lets out a groan,
My mechanic is gone, but
I still love you Daddy, You are still here,
My mechanic for eternity.
You aim my lights for the road ahead,
You fill my tank so I have nothing to dread,
you tune my engine so it now purrs,
and help me to steer down this narrow road ahead.
When I've earned my crown, I'll accept it with glee,
we'll all be together, Alice, you and me.

The Rotary Motto
The enthusiam with which Rotarians embraced the ideal of service is
evidenced by Rotary's principal motto, "Service Above Self" and its other
official precept, "He Profits Most Who Serves Best." The roots of both
of these adages, adopted as official mottos at the 1950 RI Convention,
can be traced back to the first decade of Rotary's existence, when "He
profits most who serves his fellows best and Service not self were both
put forth as slogans. In 1989, the RI Council on Legislation designated
"Service above Self" as the principal motto.
