"The Ancient One," a 1991
Sentra SE-R, upgraded with:
As of the afternoon of 12/24/99, it had 200,000.0 miles (!!!), many of which are/were... spiritedly driven :)
As of 04/29/01, there are over 238,000 miles on the clock.
1/4 MI PERFORMANCE: My best SE-R 1/4 mi runs to date were done at Englishtown's Raceway Park in NJ, where I turned a 14.826 sec @ 92.77 mph timeslip. I ran a 14.859 sec @ 93.36 mph pass approximately 1/2 hour earlier. The Ancient One is among the quickest all-motor (naturally aspirated) SE-R documented on the Internet :) Skeptical about such performance? See other SR20DE powered cars' 1/4 mi performance data at the SR20DE Timeslip Table.
There's a lot of info on and a cult following for this little pocket rocket. Check out the SE-R Home Page, or SE-R.net
I also own:
"The Bullet," a 1993
RX7, upgraded with:
Since this is my fair-weather/weekend car, there are just under 42k miles on it.
Upgrades Installation Pics: Pics of the engine-bay parts
installation can be found here.
1/4 MI PERFORMANCE: My best run to date, with the above upgrades, is a 12.541 sec @ 111.89 mph. The timeslip scan is at the bottom of this link. Try wiping the grin off my face :)
Exhaust Notes
My RX7 was used to template Kevin Wyum's ASP Racing midpipe exhaust system. I am running with the first production copy of the system now. It consists of 2 sections of mandrel bent 3" stainless steel piping, eliminates the main cat and terminates with a stainless Walker Ultraflow Competition-series muffler with a nice looking, slightly angled-cut 3.5" polished stainless steel tip. The new system fits nicely and is much more refined-sounding than the original prototype, a deep burble at low rpms, a banshee scream at high rpms. The ASP exhaust weighs approx 21-22 lb, compared to the stock main cat + muffler which weigh a total of 61-62 lb.
I haven't had the time to take/scan pictures of the ASP Racing exhaust yet, but I'll step that up if people want me to do this.
Above is a pic taken at the 96 One Lap of America race at Lime Rock CT, where I supplied Kevin w/ some of the race gas he used during this segment of the event. From left to right: me and my 93 RX7, my SE-R friend and ex-college classmate Fred, Kevin Wyum and his ASP Racing 1993 RX7 R1.
I also also now own:
"The (unnamed) One," a 2000
Honda Prelude, upgraded with:
As of 04/29/01, it has just over 10k miles. VTEC is definitely nice, but the car would benefit from having that transition occur at around 4500rpm as opposed to the stock ~5200rpm changeover.
1/4 MI PERFORMANCE: I recently benchmarked my Lude in bone-stock form, and ran a 15.09 sec @ 92.3 mph, on a 2.34 60'. Not too shabby... time to install the AEM CAI which has been sitting in its box for almost a year.
I'll have more to say about the newbie after I rack up more miles and install some real upgrades. In the meantime, a couple more pics of my new ride are here.
