Not sure if this was answered or not...and hey! I'm still catching up

too...from what I know...Sono Andati is from La Boheme...NOT

Tosca...it's the

character of Mimi...she sings it right before she dies....Hope that

helps...:)

Thank you very much for the information Jose.

Only a few days ago I borrowed a biography of Puccini from the local

library. From what I've heard from both Tosca and Madama Butterfly, I

really like his works.

Thanks again,

Jane Fribit

I'm so sorry of not answering this really old post! Excuse me, I was on

a heavy load of work and moving my self to another city and I skiped

this one! May be is not too late to answer it.

E Lucevan Le Stelle leads the third and final act of Puccini's Tosca.

In fact is the start of a lovely memory scene where Mario (the hero) is

about to face his doom. He is in jail and awaiting. He ask for a

permit to write a letter to Tosca and he starts to remind the good ol'

times. The lyrics tell you how sad is he and how he wants to live. You

can find it in the extraits or the complete version which includes the

dialog with the celator. Both are beautiful. All great tenors had sung

it, so if you find a compendium of any tenor you'll probably find it

there. In my point of view, Jose Carreras interpretation is the best

one.

Humming Chorus, played during the fatal walk in the park, is from

Puccini's Madama Butterfly. It is in the final part of the second act

(middle one) It interprets how Madama walks down to the peer with her

maid Suzuki and her son. She's walking to receive her boy friend but

the little she knows. She's wearing a wedding dress (after years of

wait) after Pinkerton (boy friend). He is married now withother woman,

so, Madama walk down to her fate.

Again, sorry for the delay and I hope Jane Fibrit can read this one (May

be she is no longer on the list)

Thanks for reading

Jose Antonio Abad

Hi folks

I just found this in the IMDB's goof section. Thought it would be of

some

interest.

Heavenly Creatures Goofs

Audio/visual unsynchronised:

There is no sound of splashing water as Pauline exits the bath.

Factual errors:

Pauline's diary shows January 1st, 1954 as a Thursday, when it was

really a

Friday.

Continuity:

Pauline's toast reappears in her hand when she is ill in bed.

Charles

Technically not a goof, as it's only visible in the full-frame cuts

and not the widescreen theatrical versions.

Last night I was looking to HC I taped last week from Canvas. In the

introduction there was said that "on the Internet you can read how this

film changed the lifes of a lot of people"... I just thought that was

nice to hear! (It's about the only part of the tape that isn't screwed,

I'm NEVER buying BASF-tapes again!)

Hi Creatures,

Just wanted to know if anyone knew more about the other works about
the Parker/Hulme case that were being thought about / made during the
time Jackson and Welsh were making Heavenly Creatures - especially if
anyone knew any of the working titles.

Just curious as I've read plenty of times that Jackson had to make the
film or else others would have.

Regards,
Jane

I don't know the title but I met with Paul Middleditch, a NZ filmmaker,
at the Montreal World Film Festival and he told me there was another
script written in NZ that had been floating around for years.

There was also the script written for Dustin Hoffman's project (which
Peter turned down). I think this one's called "The Christchurch Murders"

I also heard, while on set in NZ, that Michaelanne Foster wanted to
turn
her play "Daughters of Heaven" into a film.

I'm sure somebody out there can fill in the blanks.

[Paul Middleditch's film "Terre Nova" is well worth checking out. It's
about a young mother who leaves Christchurch with her daughter to
escape
her abusive parents. She finds herself in an Australian tenement
populated by all manners of "creepy" characters. It's actually an
Australian production.]

Hello everybody!
Last night I felt like dying, but then I decided to forget about
everything and
just live on, and now I think I really can make it!!!
Iīm so happy, because I already started to think about what to tell
everyone
WHY I killed myself... now that is stupid weakness, isnīt it? No man or
thing is
worth dying for, with the exception of these gorgeous things like true
love,
liberty or human rights ;c) like in movies or in war.

I donīt want to bore you with my personal stuff, but I would like to
know these
things about you as well and maybe thereīs someone out there who feels
the same.
Is it true that most people donīt understand the langueage of the trees
and the
wind any more? They donīt feel the strengh of the stars and the moon?
Am I
insane, or do I just appriciate something that others canīt see? There
are
several things that always gave me power and love, enough to cope with
anything.
I thought I lost them, and I was afraid I would never find them again.
Now they
took me back. It feels so great. Did anyone ever know that the moon is
warm?
That the stars dance?
I think you are the right ones to understand what I mean. Iīm only
seventeen,
but I feel like I already understand the big WHY...
Maybe thatīs overbearing. I donīt know. At least Iīm still alive and I
didnīt
give in.

Love,
Layala

The real world... who needs it? ;c)

Well, i do, sort of. A day doesn't go by when i don't think about

killing myself, for no particular reason, but just because i feel like

it. Like it's just not worth the effort, you know?

But then i hear a wonderful piece of music, or see a film i love, and

it all seems worth it. You know when morrissey sings about 'the songs

that saved your life' it really applies to me. Even simple things

like the smile of a girl or a sunny day can make me feel like i

survived yet another day.

I also find comfort in the fact that i always have a choice to stop

living this life.

Just stay true to yourself, live your life from day to day and don't

waste your time with stuff like career and appearances and you'll be

alright.

Take care.

Hiya,

Been moving hence the lack of postings, but I have been reading them.

I watched HC a few days ago, and I noticed in the scene when Pauline is

cycling to Iilam when it is dark, (just before the naming the saints

scene), as she cycles along there is a flourecant street lamp in the

background. Is this historicaly correct or is it a very slight oversight

by PJ?

This is one for Christchurch residents. Were those light around 40

years

ago? Did you see this on a full frame version? It could be that it's

outside the frame of the theatrical aspect ratio.

There are little flaws in HC. But you have to be really picky or aware

of

them for having been there on set.

It doesn't really show up in the film but when the girls kiss the

street

bum outside the theatre royal, the poster on the wall behind him is for

"A Kiss Before Dying" - a 1956 release.

When I pointed it out to Fran she laughed and said "Only you would know

that".

Really? I didn't know that...AAARRCCHH...I hate Robert Miles! Talking

about soundtracks, the 'Wild Things' soundtrack is pretty good according

Hey creatures! Things seem to be a bit slow now (why?) so I have two

little subjects, an offer and a question.

First, the offer. I don't know if anyone's interested, but I found some

copies of the soundtrack CD here in Brazil, they're really not too hard

to find and are realtively cheap for Brazilian standards. It's the

Brazilian edition, identical to the original one plus the title in

Portuguese in the front. I'm willing to send it to anyone who want a

copy, it's $17 plus shipping (for US will be like $23 total), which I

think it's cheaper than some places on the net. Please email me

privately.

Second, does anybody know anything about what happened to the FAQ

compiler, John D. Porter? It says there that he wanted to publish it,

any info on that? Adam?

:*

Juliana.

Hi creatures!

I already saw Wild Things. I have to confess something. I like Neve

Campbell. She has a very nice smile and some nice-girl-lookin'. I do

not think that she's a wonderfull

actress, and none of her movies really touched me. The only good

performance she has is the party of five tv drama. The other wild

thing is Denise Richards. Not a great artist

in my point of view but a face style Liv Tyler, I mean, she sells her

image. I guess she has a fake breats and a fake nose. WT sucks, it

could be a good thriller-suspense movie

but the way the mystery is handled is awful! It contradicts it self

and suppouse that the viewer has a very bad memory! BUT I liked the

music. Just the main theme. They have

some music scenes with wild images in the swamps that are great. Just

my 2c.

Oh! I would like To have Mel's picture! Can you do it Marloes?

Thanks for reading

I like Wild Things...up to the 3th plot-twist anyway. (The 1st one wasd

the best!!) After that I was just waiting for another strange turn in

the story. But I still liked it, I liked Neve Campbell's work...a LOT. I

don't say it's a good film, I just liked it...can imagine other people

don't. Not with HC though. For some reason I can't understand it if

other people don't love (or even like) my fav film. I always try to

Here's an article that appeared in the 20 September 1998 "Sunday Times"

of UK:

In 1954, Anne Perry helped murder her best friend's mother. Now

as an author

making her television debut, killing still dominates her life.

Young killers - By Stephen McGinty

To spot the real killer in ITV's new series, The Inspector

Pitt Mysteries,

look beyond the obvious suspects in the Cluedo-esque line-up

of

Victorian stereotypes: the Rev Prebble, the preacher with a

penchant for

brimstone-fuelled sermons and self-flagellation; Lord George

Ashworth,

the aristocrat with a hankering for low life; Edward Ellison,

the City

banker in need of an alibi.

Look instead at the elegant lady, squeezed into the corset,

petticoats and

lace who stands silently in a church in episode one. The

Hitchcock-like

cameo is from Anne Perry, the author of the novels from which

the series

is adapted. She may look like just a youthful grandmother, but

Perry is

the genuine article, a murderer in real life.

Perry joined the Murder She Wrote club 20 years ago but,

unlike PD

James or Ruth Rendell, she really knows what she is writing

about. In

1994 the bestselling writer was unmasked as a joint

perpetrator of one of

New Zealand's most notorious murders. In 1954, as a

15-year-old

schoolgirl named Juliet Hulme, she and her best friend,

Pauline Parker,

bludgeoned Parker's mother to death with a brick sheathed in a

stocking.

The subsequent trial - with its accusations of lesbian

behaviour and

revelations of the disturbed fantasy world the two girls

shared - gripped

the country.

After her release from prison in 1959, Hulme changed her name

to Anne

Perry and left New Zealand to re-invent herself as a committed

Christian

and author living in a Scottish farmhouse. But the release in

1994 of

Heavenly Creatures, a film based on the case starring Kate

Winslet as

Hulme, led to Perry's former identity being uncovered.

The squat, black word murder may connect Juliet Hulme to Anne

Perry,

but it now holds a different meaning. To Hulme it was a

desperate,

regrettable act; to Perry it is merely an engine that drives

the plot.

Forty-five years and 15,000 miles separate Hulme and Perry,

but clues

to the past can be found at the end of a 250-mile drive from

Glasgow, up

the A9 through the Highlands to Easter Ross and the tiny

fishing village of

Portmahomack. There, in a converted barn on a hill outside

town and

surrounded by acres of garden - not to mention a tight group

of friends -

Perry writes her bestsellers, two each year.

Perry, now 58, leads the way to a baronial hall. Two metal

staircases

disappear upstairs to her cluttered study where she writes in

longhand

while listening to classical music. In the attic, Ken Weir,

her researcher,

pores over old maps of London and calculates the damage caused

by a

19th-century pistol. At the next desk, Elizabeth Sweeney types

the latest

manuscript for the New York publisher.

The Cater Street Hangman, the first of the Inspector Pitt

Mysteries, has

been followed by 23 other novels, each increasingly

successful. Perry's

first advance was $3,000; her latest is $300,000. The series

forms the

basis for what its producers, among them Prince Edward, hope

will be a

long-running success in the mould of Inspector Morse.

Maxim Jubrowski, owner of the Murder One crime book shop in

London and a friend of Perry's, says: "I had read Anne's books

and was

as shocked as anyone when the revelations came out.

"In my view, the positive link between her crime and her

novels is that the

books are exceedingly moral. Crime never pays. The crime has

influenced her by granting her moral rectitude."

A recurrent motif of Perry's novels is of crime within the

family. The

subtext is that everyone is capable of murder. The killings

are violent but

swift. There are no gratuitous descriptions in Perry's work.

"I don't want

my victims to feel pain," says Perry in her spacious living

room. "You can

see my revulsion for violence all the way through. I don't

like pain, mine

or anybody else's. I have people killed very quickly; even if

something

nasty happens to the body, it is always after they are dead."

Relaxed and friendly, she explains that the decision to write

a murder

mystery came only after numerous historical novels had been

rejected.

The form attracted her through its reliance on strong plot and

the

opportunity to ask pointed questions about what provokes the

impulse to

commit murder. Asked what she, as someone who has killed, can

bring

to the mystery genre, Perry seems unfazed. "I think I can

bring perhaps a

little less black and white judgment," she says. "It seems to

me that many

[murderers] have to do it. It may be that they have two

choices between

bad and worse. So they pick bad. I also want to show that

almost

everybody, in themselves, is not wicked, but possibly mistaken

or guilty

of making a judgment which is too hasty. Several of my

perpetrators are

far more to be pitied than to be blamed."

As a child Perry clearly feels she fitted this category. The

daughter of Dr

Henry Hulme, a mathematician, and Hilda Hulme, a minister's

daughter

and marriage guidance counsellor, Juliet had bronchitis and

nearly died at

six. Doctors warned her parents that the British winter could

kill her and

she was sent to the Bahamas with family friends. Two years

later she was

reunited with her family when they emigrated to New Zealand.

It was at Christchurch girl's school that she met Pauline

Parker. An

imaginative friendship grew. The pair created fantasy worlds

and violent

royal families. While Hulme lived in a large mansion with an

expansive

garden, Parker's parents ran a boarding house. Their

friendship was an

attraction of opposites but deepened into obsession when Hulme

was

sent to a sanatorium for six months while her parents

travelled abroad.

It was Mrs Hulme's decision to divorce her husband and have a

relationship with another man that was the catalyst for

murder. During

this family crisis, Hulme was to be sent to an uncle in South

Africa. It

would mean separation from Parker. The almost suicidal Parker

figured

that if her mother was dead, she would be free to join Hulme

in South

Africa. Hulme, ill and confused, colluded. She led Mrs Parker

to a

country spot for a picnic before the pair bludgeoned her to

death.

"At the time I really did feel that it was a choice between

bad or worse,"

Parry says. "If my friend had taken her own life it would have

been my

fault. I'm not saying she would have done, but that is what I

believed at

the time. It was a decision that had to be made instantly and

I was ill.

Obviously I made a bad judgment, but I did not feel there was

anybody

else I could go to."

Perry says she now has no memory of the murder, of the

repeated

blows, cracked teeth and Parker's severed finger. Is it

possible to forget

by a conscious act of will?

"Oh, I think one can choose to forget. There is a difference

between

choosing to forget and choosing not to discuss, but if you

want to heal

you choose to forget. Why would you choose to remember?

"You can remember how you felt. You can remember that it is

wrong.

You can remember the remorse. You don't have to remember

details.

The emotion is what I remember. The fear and reluctance.

Thinking,

'How can I get out of this? I can't. I don't want to do this.

I'm going to be

blamed.' The lesson I will remember is don't ever let anyone

coerce you

into doing something that you do not want to do. Don't feel so

sorry for

anyone else that you forget your own values come first."

Perry made the decision to forego sackcloth and ash and

rebuild her life

within three months of entering Auckland prison. According to

psychologists, this was a significant and unusual development.

Teenagers

in Perry's position have a tendency to blame others.

Dr Sue Bailey, a forensic psychiatrist at the Manchester

mental health

trust, has recently completed a survey on children who kill.

"Many

adolescents who kill will blame anyone other than themselves.

To take

the responsibility yourself and begin to come to terms with it

in the space

of just a few months indicates a tremendous inner strength and

courage,"

she says.

In Defend & Betray, an earlier novel, Perry writes of a female

murderer:

"She will never cease to pay within herself for the act."

"I suffered mental anquish. I had to face myself, admit that

this was my

responsibility," Perry reflects. "Yes this was me, it was not

that person or

that person, it was me. I was wrong. When you have said that

and meant

it, you can then begin to build a new life," she says.

The Church of the Latter Day Saints has been a central focus

in that new

life. She joined in America 32 years ago when she was 26. She

now

teaches Bible classes and gives 10% of her pre-tax income to

the church.

All her employees are fellow worshippers.

An important facet of Mormonism for Perry is the belief that

the concept

of original sin is fallacious. In her view, Adam and Eve

eating the apple

was "a good thing, for we must all grow up".

"We also believe," she adds, "that when Christ was in the

garden of

Gethsemane he made a spiritual journey outside time during

which he

saw every bad thing that ever happened or ever will happen.

There is no

evil act, no disease, no despair, no suicidal guilt, no Gulag

Archipelago

that Christ has not seen.

"When Christ faced the Adversary [Satan] in the garden he was

able to

say, 'It does not matter what happened, I will not turn

away.'. The

Adversary did not realise that love was as powerful as it is.

Love is so

powerful that there is nothing and nobody from which it will

turn away."

The cynical might suggest that life as a Latter Day Saint

appeals to Perry

because it allows the notion that Christ witnessed her crime

and that his

love remains unconditional. Yet her choice is not a cop-out.

Mormons

engage in rigorous self-examination, combined with regular

meetings with

church elders who help ensure that their behaviour remains

Christian. The

anonymous slide into the confessional booth for forgiveness is

a luxury

denied them, as are the comforts of alcohol, tobacco, coffee

or tea.

They do, however, enjoy lunch. In Portmahomack that can only

mean

the Oyster Catcher, a tiny cafe and craft shop on a curving

terrace which

enjoys views across the sea to the Sutherland hills. The sun

is just

cracking through the skies as we drive the half-mile in

Perry's sleek,

extended Jaguar with its walnut dashboard and leather

interior.

Perry orders a cheese and tomato omelette and a glass of

Appletise and

talks of her excitement at Inspector Pitt's television debut.

She will not be

in Britain to see it; instead she will be lecturing at a

library society in

Atlanta. "Ģ7,000 for a one-hour lecture, less than Lady

Thatcher, but not

bad," she laughs.

She is delighted that Prince Edward, who runs Ardent, the

production

company behind The Inspector Pitt Mysteries, took the risk and

bought

the rights. "Don't you admire Prince Edward for allowing

himself to be

linked up with someone like me, knowing what the press could

do? He is

a man of courage. He knew about me from the very beginning. He

discussed it with other people and said, 'I can see the

headlines right

now, but we will go ahead anyway.' I was very touched when I

was told

that."

When she was first unmasked as a murderer, Perry worried about

the

effect this would have on her mother. Marion Perry, 86, who

has a heart

complaint, lives in a small house near her daughter. Her

second concern

was that her career as a writer would collapse.

Now Perry exudes contentment, as if a burden, long carried,

has been

lifted. At the time, the village rallied round her, friends

proved their mettle

and sales failed to dip. Now she can even joke about it.

Recently when a

friend wrongly assumed she had been to university, Perry

reminded her

that she had been educated at Auckland women's prison. "Prison

was

dreadful. I hated not being able to ever get clean," says

Perry. "You

couldn't read at night, so during the day I would memorise

poems by

Chesterton and run them through my mind after lights out." Her

love of

the Highlands is heightened by memories of the six years

inside. "You

could never see the horizon, just a square of sky above where

you

walked. That is one of my greatest pleasures about living

here. I love the

sky and I never tire of watching light on water."

The Inspector Pitt Mysteries: The Cater Street Hangman is on

September 23 on ITV at 8pm

Young killers

Mary Bell: In 1968, aged 11, Bell was found guilty of

strangling two

young boys. Released in 1980, she married, had a child and

changed her

name. Earlier this year, the book of her story, Cries Unheard,

by Gita

Sereny, caused uproar when it was revealed that Bell had

received

payment for talking to her.

Jon Venables and Robert Thompson: In 1993 the murder of

two-year-old James Bulger shocked the nation when it was

revealed he

had been murdered by two 10-year-old boys. Bulger had been

bludgeoned to death with a rock and was found lying on a

railway track.

Venables and Thompson were convicted of murder and are at a

young

offenders institution. James's mother Denise recently

remarried after the

breakdown of her marriage to his father.

Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden: Aged 13 and 12

respectively,

Johnson and Golden opened fire in their school playground in

Jonesboro,

Arkansas, killing a teacher and four pupils in March this

year. Under

relaxed laws pertaining to child criminals in Arkansas, the

judge was

unable to do anything but turn the pair over to the care of

the state.

Johnson could be free within four years.

Kipland Kinkel: In May, 15-year-old Kinkel shot and killed his

parents, murdered two classmates and injured 25 others in his

hometown

of Springfield, Oregon. Charged with four counts of murder and

25 of

attempted murder, he is too young to receive the death

penalty, but could

be jailed for life. He is awaiting trial.

Bhavesh Dhodiya and Rupesh Pancholi: In 1995 in Bolton,

15-year-old Dhodiya battered his mother to death with a claw

hammer,

taking turns with his 16-year-old friend Pancholi, because he

wanted Ģ60

as a down payment on a car. As she lay dying they took four

gold

bangles from her arms and sold them. Both were found guilty of

murder.

Hi Creatures

Has anyone noticed that Anne Perry's first novel is being shown in a

televised version tomorrow night on ITV? I just saw a trailer today.

It's a 2-hour once-off. I guess ITV are trying to find another

successful

2-hour mystery series to fill the gapingly empty Inspector Morse slot.

Cheers,

Phil

I'm so sorry for bothering you with emails all day (I wouldn't be doing

this if I actually had a life) but I HAD to write this one!

I'm SO excited!!!!!....except from all you fellow creatures, I actually

found someone who also loves HC!! 'Tis indeed a miracle... (=

She noticed me browsing through HC-sites and asked me if I'd seen it.

She just loves HC...and was all excited about it!! She totally

understood my fascination, and obsession, while most people think I'm

just mad!!!

Can you believe she even asked for the script? She wanted it for the

filmacademy...I was like SURE!! I'll be watching though!!!!!!! (((-:

Hi all you fellow creatures,

(Actually this was meant to send just to Jeroen and to the "innocent

creature"

(uknowwho), but then I thought it could be of interest to you all. So I

hope no

one gets bothered.)

What a great film!!!

I just finished watching it and the impressions are (yet fresh and)

overwhelming. I don't see me as a great film-fanatic or film-expert in

any case,

so it's a bit difficult for me to put my fascination into words. There

are a few

words going through my head now, such like "unbelieveable thrilling",

"fantastatic combination of sex and crime", "outstanding performances",

"dirty

language" (nearly every 2nd word contained "f*..." or "damn...") (well,

I'm not

too upset about the usage of language, as it was some sort of suitable,

I

think).

At this point I want to say, that I become aware of this movie through

HC, but

for me they are completely different, besides the fact that both movies

deal

with a lesbian relationship (and some sort of murderous actions). I

really don't

want to compare these two.

The man who played 'Cesar' reminds me on the actor Steve Railsback who

played

'Duane Barry' in the x-files episode 2x05 of the same name ('Duane

Barry').

Absolutely gorgeous to see that kind of convincing acting.

Stunned and afraid of the mighty family and their violent behavivour,

Frank

--

'Where the hell was biggles when you needed him last saturday?

Where are all the sportsmen that always pulls you through?'

Check out Steve Railsback's great performance opposite Peter O'Toole

(playing either a film director who thinks he's God or God playing a

film

director) in "The Stunt Man".

It's unfortunate that he shows up in crap like "Barb Wire" (hey! A

guy's

gotta eat!) but SR is one really good actor.

Hi all creatures,

I 'stole' Jeroen's film-stills (Nahhh...I did ask him) and fixed my own

HC-screensaver...It's not perfect, but it is a screensaver, and it feels

like I'm watching the film over and over again, but with high-speed.

Which makes the emotions come and go fast also...strange experience. I

just sat here laughing and crying in only a few mins...

If anyone is interested in the program to make a screensaver, let me

know...

Take care,

Marloes

Hi fellow creatures,

since some of you also like to read Anne Perry's novels I think this

link could

be of some interest:

http://www.dialspace.dial.pipex.com/town/avenue/aca01/

It is a site named "The Perry Illustrated Chronicle". Besides many info

about

Anne Perry's life, her books (with background story info) there are a

few

sentences about the tv-adaption of "The Cater Street Hangman" and a pic

of the

woman who was designated to play Charlotte.

A short extract:

"The Cater Street Hangman" will appear on television in the UK and US

this

autumn as a pilot for the Pitt series. Eoin McCarthy and Keeley Hawes

will be

taking the roles of Thomas and Charlotte. McCarthy has previously been

seen in

the Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies", Ken Loach's "Land and Freedom"

and the

television programmes "Original Sin" and "Cadfael."

This news doesn't seem to be to up to date. Can anyone, who has seen

the film

("The Cater Street Hangman"), confirm or deny it?

So long,

Frank

Very cool!

I used to host an Anne Perry site about.. 3 years ago, but I had to

remove it when I changed my status from student to staff at the U of I.

I

want to put it back up but it would require tons of work, since it is

very

out of date (3 years old info and counting!).

I suppose I must find something else to focus on... hmm....

Here's what Bao (the Webmaster for the KWS which hosts HeavenlyWeb) has

to say about it:

Well, I keep saying it will be back up soon but something always come

up. The site is actually up

and running right now but we haven't received a permanent IP address -

therefore, the domain

www.reflection.org is inoperative at the moment. It should be another

couple of days till opening

day again...

Believe me, I want to see it back up as much as anyone, if not more

so. We haven't been able to

work on it that much at all to be honest. I hope what we've been able

to worked on, thus far, won't

disappoint. I do have a ton of new pics from Japanese magazines to

update; we are working on an

article database and possibly an image database. Marie should be able

to update the news

section as before. We do need help and contributions - and thank you

for those who volunteered to

help us out. I have not answered any emails (lost them) but be sure to

use the feedback form and

talk to us once the site is back up!

We are all pretty busy with work right now. But hopefully people will

start visiting the site again, use

the message board and chat rooms, etc. and contribute materials for us

to update! :)

Hello!

I noticed your request for a NZ cut of HC.

Although I don't sell them, I do trade copies of the NZ cut for items I

can't readily find in Montreal.

These items are usually toys (like "Mars Attacks" action-figures or

"the

Lost in Space Robot") or books which don't make it up here.

The tapes are transcoded from PAL on professional equipment direct from

the NZ tape- they are not second or third generation dub. Such a job is

usually $50-$75 an hour so it is cost prohibitive (a hundred bucks?).

However by having it done in small batches I have brought the price

down

to approx $30 us per tape. This is usually the value of the trade I

make.

Since you live in LA, I'm sure finding something to trade won't be

hard.

I like Ultraman and Godzilla (The original not that Iguana impostor)

stuff and there is a charming Little Tokyo downtown where I went

shopping

when I was there.

Let me know if this interests you.

I like my life just the way it is, internet included...for me it has

been a fantastic way to meet people from all over the world. A few weeks

ago some scientists came to the conclusion that the internet makes you

lonely and depressive, and makes you lose your 'real' friends. Pure

nonsense I think. I read a letter in a newspaper that also disagreed

with that statement, it said: The internet doesn't make you lonely, it

only makes lonely people realize they are lonely. Back in the days you

used to be disappointed if you didn't get any snailmail. Later you were

disappointed if you didn't get any snailmail and no one was on your

answering-machine. Now you are disappointed and totally alone if you

don't receive snailmail, have no messages on the answering-macine

and...oh disaster: No emails!!!!

YESSS...all hail Mario! (=

No, for real...she shouldn't worry at all, I only speak for myself here,

but I do lead a pretty 'normal' life I think.

That's a shame...have you ever tried to tell her what makes the film so

fascinating for you? And have you also told her that there are a lot of

other people who experience the same thing? It's not unhealthy at

all...but then again, i'm a 'believer' as you put it, so not very

objective...

Dear Layala:

The most important thing here is to be in peace with you. You can be

whatever you

want. You can do whatever you want. You are free! Don't fight against

imaginary

obstacles. You can try, as Marloes said, to show Nina your world's

view. If she

can get it, great! If she doesn't, too bad. But Layala doesn't need to

be out of

this world! In a few words, now, the fourth world is the most

important thing in

your life, so , let it be. If you are not trying to kill someone or so

then enjoy

the freedom! I guess you are quite young, so do not interrupt your

studies, do not

fight with your beloved people and enjoy life wether is behind a

computer or in a

saloon. Be free and happy. And do not care in the others opinion, just

learn from

the others.

Long life Layala

Thanks for reading

Layala,

Maybe your friend Nina is worried that you're too much into HC and the

computer. I think that you should try to show her and your other friends

that there is more to your life than HC and computers- so they won't be

worried about you. As for me- I think I have 2 lives- lives in and out

of my house. Most of my friends don't even know that I saw HC or that I

have a computer- even though it is a pretty big part of my life. Maybe

you should separate this lives like I do so people who can't understand

your other life won't worry. I'm sorry if my letter seem confusing!

Marloes,

As for the article about the internet making people lonely- that sure is

not true! I think I'm much less lonely now since I have the computer-

that way I can talk to people in my school that has internet and that

makes me have more friends- not less!!!

I believe that I am less lonely as well. We need to operationalize the

meaning of the word

'friend' and 'friendship' with the advent of the technology age. Unless

we do so we cannot

understand one another.

I have never met my best friend - she lives in Sweden and we met just

over

one year ago over the internet. I went thorough a difficult time a

couple of

months ago, and she really was the best - she was a true friend where

some

of my 'real world' friends just deserted me. Of course, this is just one

case; I have had internet friendships where I thought I'd found a good

friend, but then she just stopped replying to my emails for no obvious

reason - it's more a case of good judgement I think. But close

friendship is

possible.

Hi all

I've been watching the Danish HC video that Tine has so kindly sent me

(Tine is hereby promoted to the Gods) in all its PAL widescreen glory.

At

last, this is the version of the film I originally loved - the UK cut,

with the garden party included - but widescreen, not unmasked. It's

simply fabulous, & I had to share my uncensored enthusiasm for it.

One observation: I never noticed before that when the girls stand on the

lawn in front of Ilam (with the unicorns and glockenspiel music) they

are

perched right on the bottom of the frame, almost as if they, too, are

spectators in what is going on. All we see is their backs. I think

this

fits with the general theme of their increasing distance from the world

outside their relationship (symbolised in this frame by their joined

hands). It's a small and disputable point, but a nice idea.

I love this film!

I do hope Alun Bollinger is going to be Peter Jackson's cinematographer

for LOTR. Their combined skills are awesome.

Yours truly, as ever,

Phil

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I called up Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh yesterday. Fran took the call

but it was very brief as they were in the middle of a meeting.

They are deep in pre-production on LOTR and trying to keep up with

major

deadlines. This is, of course, one of the most monumental undertakings

in

film history and there a relatively short time to complete it. Right

now

they are "ages away" from casting.

I really had called Peter to let him know I finally delivered the

poster

for BRAINDEAD I was supposed to give Forrest J. Ackerman back in 1993!

(Okay, so I may be late sometimes but I always come through).

Forry (as he is know to his fans) is a notorious punster and was Ray

Bradbury's litterary agent and the world's biggest collector of fantasy

film memorabilia. He published FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, a magazine

which influenced many of today's biggest names in Sci-Fi, Fantasy and

Horror (Including Steven Spileberg, Rick Baker, Joe Dante and Peter).

In

1991, he visited Wellington for a convention and Peter gave him a cameo

BRAINDEAD (DEAD ALIVE): he is the elderly gent reading a magazine

(FMoF)

in the Wellington Zoo. Later, when Mum is bitten by the suamtran rat

monkey he is seen recoiling in disgust and taking a picture. That cameo

was actually shot a month or so before the film.

I was set to visit Forry's famed "Ackermansion" in Hollyweird,

Karloffornia (his spelling) on the trip back from NZ but he wasn't home

then. He was in Montreal this weekend for a convention. So I crashed

the

con and went to meet him.

It was a thrill to shake the hand that shook so many hands I wish I

would

have had a chance to: Bela Lugosi, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, Lon

Chaney

Jr...

In addition to both of us appearing in PJ films, Forry and I have

appeared in FRANKENSTEIN & ME. His scene follows mine. He plays the

priest at Burt Reynold's funeral. I was the doctor delivering the bad

news. Alas, our scenes were on opposite ends of the continent so our

fated meeting again didn't happen.

It was great to finally meet the legend.

Hi all,

This is only an idea...I don't say it's going to happen and I certainly

don't say everyone has to like it or actually participate...but:

How about making some kind of Hall-of-HC-fame? I think it would be cool

to have some kind of gallery with our pictures in it, pictures from

HC-list members that is...

And maybe a messageboard or something, a page with all our thoughts on

HC. A site built by all of us, hehe...am I moving to fast now?? Lets

start with thep ics...*s*

NOTE: I don't want to push anyone into posting their pics in public if

they don't want to...cool with me!

Maybe this is a dumb idea, maybe not...but the lack of messages lately

gives some people brainwaves...eh... Frank? *s*

Take care,

Hi,

The Heavenly Creatures site is in a state of flux.

You may find it here:

http://212.254.202.28

As of about 1pm pacific time, site will be available as:

http://heavenly.666.org

I apologize for the slack in the update. I've been terribly busy

with work. I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to

the kind person who is now hosting the site.. I hear some people sent

some not-so-friendly emails there. Please, I know we all need our

fix of HC, but maintenance of a modicum of heavenly demeanour would be

most appreciated :)

Please note, as well, that the site is not fully online yet.. there are

still some images which are not findable, etc. I realize this, and it

is most maddening to me. It will hopefully be fixed soon.

thanks for your interest and support,

b

Yes it was me! Mea culpa! Any related flame war right to me... ;-)

In the beginning of this year I started an inquiry among the fellow

creatures on

this list. That contained the following headings:

e-mail

name

gender

location

age

occupation

favoured films/tv

favoured music

other interests

I still have this list (as of 02/19/98) with 63 creatures on it but

have no

homepage :(

Of course, the above headings are no must. Just take it as a

contribution to

some sort of brainstorming.

Bryan,

I believe I have all the pics/sounds/videos available on HeavenlyWeb in

my Jaz drive. If you cannot find something, chances are I have them

and can forward it you.

We used to run weekly backups on CD-ROM on the old server, but I don't

know what might of happened there for awhile. We are planning to

purchase a CD-ROM or Jaz drive for backups on the new server.

Bao

Perhaps I can lend a hand in this project if it come to fruitation. I

can build us a database using Active Server Pages. Users will be able

to search or display records by various criteria; in addition,

administrator(s) can add, modify, delete information all via a web

broswer. If you want to get fancy, users can upload photos (or host

their own) to be display on the user's information pages. It will cost

you all a 50 quiqs, of course! :)

Someone can do the HTML design/layout at the front-end and I can build a

database for the back-end, if interested. I also have my own virtual

server and domain for personal use (k8di.reflection.org), which runs NT,

IIS, and SQL Server. It's all part of KWS at www.reflection.org - and

thank god we finally got our site and HeavenlyWeb back up again.

It could be a collective effort, the more the merrier. :)

(Could also turned into something bigger down the line, who knows..)

Bao

P.S. Visit KWS - there is an illustrated HC script in Acrobat format in

the Articles section! I have a perculiar Argentinian HC press kit to

publish too. Thanks, Jolly. :)

Also, there's my page: http://members.home.com/englishpatient/hc.html

My server has completely thrown up on itself, and hasn't been repaired

(@home) and I can't update my page! Ahh! I consistently check on it to

try and upload new files, etc, but...all I can do at this point is

wait..

Hi Creatures,

The site is a great idea. I've actually saved all of the digests since

I've been on the list.. (say since 730 - and we are up to 941) and in

want of keeping

them, a few months back I uploaded most of them at an address. I have

the address written down but I don't actually remember it off hand.

I didn't advertise or whatever - I was afraid that some of might have

objected. But I also have all of the archives from the reflection.org

which are from 1 to about 160. I think I've also only uploaded 739 -

860 or so.

If these are of interest to the site, I'd be happy to upload them all

on the net and you can get them from there...

Jane
