Martin Ayotte is president and funder of Tedtax Ltd. Born in 1966 in Montreal he has completed his studied at McGill University in Montreal in the field of International finance.

From the magazine Québec-Franchise (july/august 1998)

Because he was preparing tax returns from his garage!!!

With an eye on preparing income tax returns the following spring, Martin Ayotte spent the fall of 1994 shopping around and looking at what tax software was available on the market. But nothing met the young entrepreneur`s expectations. So he created his own software: a quick, simple, efficient and, above all, error-free tool, which is why it was immediately approved by the government. From the basement of his house, Martin Ayotte completed a successful tax season.

Wishing to continue in the acconting field, he then offered accounting and business start-up services to small and medium-sized companies. It was a huge success, and it soon became clear that he would have to hire someone to share the workload.

The basement was buried in paper. Imagine! Files and paperwork were everywhere-in every nook and cranny, all over the concrete floor, on his workbench, in the closet...absolutely everywhere! The quickest solution was to expand into the garage.

The new team not only served a growing clientele, it had to be creative because Ayotte, no longer satisfied with his original product, was dedicated to developing accounting software programs.

Working in the garage (!) with an ever-expanding clientele, documents piled to the ceiling, no space... Phew! Exhausting. Swamped and discouraged he asked himself, `What am I going to do?`
So he rolled up his sleeves, ready to take up the challenge, and opened his real office, the head office of Tedtax in Laval. Adverting, trade shows and conventions helped Tedtax take off, but word of mouth proved to be the ultimate tool for increasing clientele.

Martin Ayotte, proud of his software design and of his new premises, offered professional services at affordable prices. And once again he found himself very busy and in search of a solution. Franchising appeared to be the best way to meet his clients` needs. So he decided to promote the concept with a view to finding a franchisee who would be interested.
Tedtax is now present in the Laval-Montreal area and is quickly spreading out into the market. Make no mistake: there is no comparison between these franchises and the paper-laden garage that served as the very first office.
