My research interest is focused on the ocean's role in the global climate system, in particular, the open ocean convection. I developed a 2-D+ convection model in circular cylindric coordinates for the open ocean. Then I improved AWI's 3-D cartesian convection model to account for subgrid-scale turbulence using Smagorinsky's parameterization. Analytical investigations of Smagorinsky's model were carried out with Vladimir Gryanik. Large Eddy Simulations were carried out using this model and together with Dmitrii Mironov using Chin-Hoh Moeng's model. I have been working on my PhD thesis under supervision of Prof. Dirk Olbers at AWI.

Besides science I'm interested in sports, in particular badminton (TuS Varrel Oberliga Nord), environmental issues and my family. I also occasionally like to play with shares.

I'm looking for a job in information technology in the area around Bremen, North Germany. I'm dealing with all kinds of computers on a daily basis and have professional experience as a system administrator. For more uptodate information consult my German home page at www.warncke-family.de.
