THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY WEBPAGE |
I've recently moved from Middlesex to Essex. I had been working full-time as a library assistant for 7 years. I've just completed A103 / AZX103 (An Introduction to the Humanities) with the Open University, which I found much easier than I thought it would be. I am now studying full-time for a BA (Hons) in Humanities and working as a Recruitment Administrator. |
ABOUT ME |
Life is the enterprise to improve. Every person is simply an experiment of ideas; ideas of which are either developed or abandoned. Nobody is useless as everything in life has a use, even an inanimate object which does not even try to make use of itself. We are all born different to encourage individual development, so that circumstance can give us the impetus to ameliorate & inculcate for life yet to be. |

OPEN UNIVERSITY STUDIES |

I'd wanted to do an Open University course since 2003 but I never attempted one until 2005 because I thought I would fail. I started with the 60-point Level 1 course An Introduction to the Humanities and I managed to get over 70% in all of my assignments. The assignments for this course had to be roughly 1000 words in length and completed in about a month. The course requires 40% to pass and it was quite easy to reach this target. An Introduction to the Humanities is an excellent choice for anyone who is interested in English, Literature, Art, Music, History, Philosophy or Religious Studies but is intimidated by the idea of starting a university course. |
In October 2006, I started studying the 60-point Level 2 course English Language: Past, Present and Future (U210). Within a month of starting, quite a few students dropped out, and I completely understand why. Firstly, it is a Sociology course disguised as an Arts course; secondly, the twelve fat textbooks and eight cassettes made the course seem like a full-time course instead of a part-time course; and thirdly, it is a struggle to find any information in the textbooks that is relevant to the assignments. You might get an assignment asking you to read a particular chapter and discuss the use of particular linguistic characteristics in everyday conversations, then discover the entire chapter is about new approaches to literacy in American schools. It's also very hard to relate to the material if you live in England - as most OU students do - because it focuses entirely on America (education, social customs, etc). The assignments for this course had to be roughly 1500-2000 words in length and completed in about a month. The course requires 40% to pass, which is manageable, but it is very difficult to get over 70%. |
