EAC.exe  and LAME are free audio programs used mostly to rip very high quality MP3’s from music CD’s similar to Roxio. Instead I use it to convert my vinyl LP collection to MP3’s. You can download EAC.exe from the programmer’s website and it has info about the program.

But another site, Chris Myden’s , has .cfg files that will load all of the options correctly for EAC, and a step by step tutorial on installing EAC.  There is also a link to download the free MP3 encoder, LAME ,  which EAC utilizes. It may look complicated, but it wasn't,.

The only other thing that you’ll need besides the computer and the Stereo/Turntable is a  “Stereo mini-jack to RCA jacks” cable which you can get for about $8-$12 at Radio Shack.

Once EAC  is installed and the cable is hooked up between the output of the Stereo/Turntable and the input to the Computer, start up EAC and cue up the LP on the turntable. If it’s hooked up correctly sound should play thru the Computer speakers.

First Screen EAC.exe
Go to Tools then select Record WAV...

Recording Wav file from LP
Make sure the Channel "VU" meter is showing some yellow, not as shown. If it's not, adjust the input volume up in the computer's Volume Control area.  Hit the Select target filename button

Create name of WAV file
Enter the Artist & name of the cut

Begin Recording WAV file
Start the turntable and cue the cut & hit Start record

Stop recording wav from LP
End recording the WAV file

Process WAV prior to converting
Now that the WAV file has been created you want to process it to remove any dead air before and after the song, and then Normalize it to standardize the volume level.
Converting WAV file to MP3

Go to Tools then select Process WAV and open the WAV file that you just saved.

WAV Editor
The silent spaces at the front and back, if any, can be hi-lighted and deleted. To Normalize the file go to Process File and select Normalize.Save the changes to the file and close the Sound Processing window.

Compress the WAV file to an MP3
Now to compress the WAV file into an MP3 format, go back to Tools and select Compress WAVs.
Find & select the WAV file that was just recorded and normalized.  The LAME program kicks in and completes the process. Click on OK when finished.

That completes the process. The LP cut should now be in a great quality, multi kpbs, MP3 file.
