June 2006 Update!

The Knockrour Pedigree Limousin Herd is based near Tallow, County Waterford where I have been breeding Limousin cattle for over 15 years. The Limousin has been present in Ireland since 1973, the founding animals were imported for their native France. The breed has developed, improved and expanded here in that time, while the Irish Limousin Cattle Society has been the most progressive and innovative breed association in the country both in breed improvement and breed promotion. In 2005 Limousin was the most popular beef breed in AI in Ireland. For more info on Limousin Cattle in Ireland go to www.irishlimousin.com

My herd is small in number but they are of high genetic merit. Photos and genetic evauations of the animals are shown here. Visit the page and see what you think!

The Knockrour herd was founded in 1989 with the purchase of Canovee Catty from the herd of Mr Richard Collins. Much of the herd is decended from this cow. She produced 9 calves over her life-time. Canovee Catty's grand dam Hirondelle was one of the original imports from France in 1973. Knocknagree Ruth was bought from Benny Joe O'Connor as a calved cow in 2002 and is breeding very well and her first heifer calf will be retained in the herd.

I think the herd size will remain around it's current number for the foreseeable future, maily due to the nature of farming enterprises on the farm. Limousin breeding has proved to be a profitable enterprise for me, mainly due to the quality of stock I'm working with.

The current calf crop are sired by Ferry, Mas du Clo, Lino and Espoir. In 2006 we have used Malibu, Espoir, Mas du Clo and Ionesco.
