Why They're Endangered

One of the last 30 Amur leopards killed with a snare placed around a hole in the fence of a deer farm.

Habitat Destruction

In Bangladesh, which is part of the leopard's habitat, 95% of the original tropical forest has been destroyed. In the Brazilian Amazon, which is part of the jaguar's habitat, 36 million hectares have been destroyed. One hectare equals 2.5 acres.

Farmers burn their fields to make them more fertile. Unfortunatly, the fire doesn't stop at the forest edge.

Beautiful Coats

Jaguars, leopards, and cheetahs are widely hunted for sport as well as their beautiful fur. However, it was the demand for its fur that led to 15,000 jaguars being killed each year in the Amazonian region of Brazil alone during the 1960's.

Even though it is illegal in most countries, jaguars are still being killed today.
