The cheetah's scientific name is Acinonyx jubatus. Its family is Felidae, and its order is Carnivora.The cheetah's average adult length is 7 feet long including the tail. It weighs 110 - 130 lbs. Cheetahs have a gestation period of about 3 months.They have a life span of about 12 years. 

Physical Characteristics

The cheetah is the fastest cat alive.Its sleek, slender body and long, powerful legs can can propel it up to 70 miles per hour.
The head is small, with a short muzzle, and features a distinctive black "tear line" running from the inner corner of the eyes to the mouth. The cheetah's body is covered in spots except for the black rings on the tail. The King cheetah often has stripes instead of spots.
