Schwarzenegger Wins California Race; Davis Recalled California voters ousted democrat Governor Gray Davis and chose actor and republican Arnold Schwarzenegger to replace him Tuesday evening. Although the final totals will not be known for a few days, early numbers showed the recall to be more than 55%, 5% more than needed, and Schwarzenegger well ahead of Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamonte and others. The governor-elect will take office sometime before the end of November. Shepard, Others Picked in Tuesday's Primary Tom Shepard, IHCC faculty member, was one of four candidates picked Tuesday for Ottumwa City Council. The other candidates were Gerald Brees, Gordon Aistrope, and Jim Schwartz. The four will run for two open offices on November 4. Also, current mayor Van Gates will be up for a rematch with former mayor Dale Uehling on that same date. Edwards Campaign Visits GPAC Jill Allen from the John Edwards for President campaign visited the GPAC meeting on Tuesday afternoon. She spoke about her boss's ideas for changing the problems in America and about her office here in Ottumwa. She is just the first of several representatives that will be meeting with GPAC to talk more about their candidates. Next up: the Howard Dean campaign in two weeks! |
