Greetings! What you've found here is a sort of travelogue that I wrote while on a 4 month tour across Russia, around China, through the Tibet Automomous Region of China, and a little from Western Europe. I also included some photos from the trip with captions and commentary to assist you, the reader, in understanding a little better about a part of the world that is probaly less familiar to you than are some others. I truly hope that you enjoy the site. ENTERThat said, I'll just add in a couple of notes about the site itself. Issue Zero: Drag any banner ads to the corner of your screen instead of closing them. Now, first of all, you may notice that I'm pretty anonymous about my identity. I fear for my future ability to visit Tibet, quite frankly. I've mentioned some critical things about the Chinese government and from some people I talked to who have had troubles getting entrance to Tibet, it doesn't seem so unwise to criticize with anonyminity. You may consider this paranoid, but then again maybe you haven't been there. (If you have and you still consider me aberrant, just let me know.) Secondly, I started out emailing these travelogues to friends and family, and the website was basically just that--text. I like text and I like that it downloads pretty quickly. Alas, I could not just leave it the HTML like that I coded 8 years ago and added some things to spruce it up. With DSL and other closer-to-broadband technologies becoming more mainstream I figured that the wait wouldn't be so bad and that most people could at least look at it at work if the download time was too long. If it is, my apologies and a suggestion: view the "Lg. Photo Index" page (about 300 kb) and enjoy the thumbnails, then go to the library or work for the bigger, better, larger images on their individual pages. Third, sometimes images don't get served properly. If you are missing one, just hit reload or right click and select "Show Picture" or that equivalent. Fourth: You can download all the travelogues in PDF format quite easily (86 kb). If you want to print them out, this is probably the best way to do it. Finally: Copyright 2000, Boom Media.
