Matthew Paul Duguay

This is an autobiography on myself Matthew Duguay

My name is Matthew Paul Duguay.  I am fifteen years old and the youngest child in my family.  I was born at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana on November 28, 1983 at 7:35 AM.  My parents are Joseph Norman Duguay and Patricia (Patsy) Anne McGee Duguay.  I lived in Evansville from November 1983 until August 18, 1998, when I moved to Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  Here in Elizabeth City, I go to Northeastern High School.

My parents were married March 31, 1979, and I am their only child together.  My mother was born on May 26, 1951, in San Francisco, California. She is a Registered Nurse and works in Labor & Delivery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.  My father was born on June 23, 1940 in Corinth, New York.  He is also a Registered Nurse but he is not currently employed in nursing.

I have two brothers and one sister.  Fred Myerle Young, the son of my mother, was born on August 27, 1975, in Asheville, North Carolina. He is earning a degree in theater arts at the University of North Carolina Asheville,  graduating in May 1999.  My other brother, Jeffery Scott Duguay,  is the son of my father.  He was born on January 16, 1964 in New York City, New York.   He is currently living in Elizabeth City.  My sister, Corrine Leigh Duguay Caudill, was born January 16, 1963, in New York City, New York also. She is the daughter of my father and lives in Norwich, New York.

My maternal grandparents recently moved to Elizabeth City as well.  My grandfather, Hubert (Jim) McGee, Jr., was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 5, 1928.  He is currently the priest at Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City.  He has been a priest for 11 years.  My grandmother, Beverly Jean Clark McGee, was born in Miami, FL November 30, 1933. She is a retired schoolteacher.  They lived in Kentucky before they moved here. They lived in a log house on a farm and at one time they had race horses.

I have never met my paternal grandparents because they died before I was born.  They were married on May 5, 1924, in Rumford, Maine.  My grandfather, Francois Xavier Duguay, was born in Moncton, Canada on January 16, 1898.  He died on November 10, 1967, while on vacation in Florida.  He was buried in Corinth, New York, because that was his home at the time.  My grandmother, Marie Marguerite Guimond Duguay, was British and born on December 23, 1902.  She was naturalized on April 5, 1943.  She died on June 4, 1948, in Corinth, New York.

I enjoy hiking and camping.  I have had two camping trips in the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee. These trips were a lot of fun and I would like to go back again.  While camping, we sometimes went repelling.  I love doing that a lot.  Last summer I went white water rafting with my church youth group from Evansville, Indiana. We went on the New River in West Virginia.

One thing I enjoyed in Evansville was my church youth group.  The youth director at my church was Chris Dillbeck.  He was dynamic, friendly, motivating, spiritual, and a big influence in my life.  Our youth group went camping, bowling, white water rafting, skiing, city wide scavenger hunt, and had crazy youth meetings.  We all had lots of fun.  A couple of adults that really helped out with the youth group were Carol Christman and Dee Dee Hewins.  They were very supportive and helpful and they were friends of mine.  I really miss all of them.

I spend most of the time on the computer. I love to work on them.  I chat with people on the Internet and make webpages.  My mother used to hate it because I was always on the Internet and tied up the phone lines, but now it’s not so bad since we had a second line installed in our new house.  At school, I am in the Air Force Junior ROTC .  We go to local parades and march.  We also march during the football and basketball games at school.  There are competitions that we go to like Drill Comp, that I hope to be a part of soon.

When I grow up, I want to be in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  My grandfather was in it when he was younger.  He was in the FBI for five years and, he opened the first FBI office in the Virgin Islands.  I would like to be in the FBI because I would like to be in some sort of law enforcement and would also like to travel.  Also I love The X-Files.

Right now I have one pet.  He is a cat named Tigger and he was born in April of 1996 on my grand parents farm.  He is the brother of two cats at my grandparents house, Hop-A-Long and Bullet.  I am hoping to get a dog from my Aunt Susan this March.  His name is Leo.  He is a yellow lab and is about two years old.

I am happy I moved to Elizabeth City because I am close to the beach and more family live here.  My grandparents and my aunt and uncle, Patsy and Jerry McGee, own beach cottages at Kitty Hawk.  My grandparent’s cottage has a hot tub and both cottages are right across the street from the ocean.  I also like living here because I got my drivers permit a lot earlier than I would have in Evansville.
