These are a few of my favorite dog books. I am a fan of every
one of these and of my local library!
Howliday Inn
by James Howe
Howliday Inn was written by James Howe. In the story there is
a cat named Chester and a dog named Howard. Please keep in mind that Chester
is a little eccentric and comes up with the oddest theories. Anyway, Howard
learns that his family is going on a vacation. Now Howard doesn't mind this.
But Chester does. So they are boarded at the 'Chateau Bow Wow, a kennel
for dogs and cats'. And then dogs and cats start disappearing..... I'll
leave the rest for you to read!
The Return to Howliday Inn
by James Howe
This book stars both Howard and Chester again. This, as you might
have guessed, is the sequel to Howliday Inn. The are going on a vacation,
and Howard and Chester return to Chateau Bow Wow, and Chester believes what
happened last time will happen again. Except instead of pets disappearing,
they hear from a dog who warns them about Chateau Bow Wow. It was really
exciting!
Greff: The story of a Guide Dog
(I'm not sure who the author is)
This book was written by an author who's name has slipped my
mind. Greff is a yellow Lab being raised by a family in New York. It follows
Greff from puppy hood to graduation. You meet his raisers, trainers, and
finally his blind person. I really loved it, and reading this book made
me want to raise Guide Dogs myself.
Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Dogs and Cats
by a panel of veterinarians from all over the country
This book is a great and handy reference for dog and cat owners
everywhere. It has info on curing everything including boredom, barking,
allergies, and acne. I think it just might be the greatest reference the
dog and cat world has ever seen!
The Great Eye
(also not sure of the author)
I adored this book. In the story there is a girl who agrees to
foster a guide dog. In comes a beautiful black Lab. The girl wanted to raise
a puppy, so she's not to open to the older dog. For anybody who loves dogs,
I recommend this book! I can not tell you how great it is.
Through Otis' Eyes: Lessons from a guide dog puppy
by Patricia Burlin Kennedy
illustrated by Robert Christie
This book is great. You see as the author gets the puppy, he
gets in trouble, and grows up. Then 'Otis' leaves. You see the author wondering
how she is going to live without him. Everywhere she looks, she sees reminders
of him: an empty bed. A water bowl. His dog bone. Then Otis graduates: she
is happy for him! I loved it so much and I could relate to the author's
empty feeling when the dog left. If you are a puppy raiser, you need to
read this book. (If you're not, read it anyway!)
