Sulphur in History
He, Mr. Sulphur,
Is an ancient friend of mine.
Although his memory is fading,
I remember:

People have known him from
The beginning of time;
He was called "
sulvere"
in Sanskrit
And named "
sulphurium"
by the Latins;
He even appeared in the Holy Bible
under the name of "
brimstone."

More recently, in 1777,
A  kind gentleman
By the name of
Lavoisier
who excelled in chemistry
and liked him much
granted him the well-deserved
title of "element."

Antoine
Lavoisier
(1743-1794)
And, in the 19th century, following Mendeleev's work,
Mr. Sulphur even received a home.
"Where?, " you might ask
and the answer is this
"Group 6,
Periodic Table of Elements."
