On 5th March we learnt that we and our virtual classmates in VC O4, Emerald Primary and Sixth Avenue had been awarded the Grand Prize in the Elementary section of theVirtual Classroom Contest 1997.

Representatives from our school were to go to Tokyo and meet representatives of theirs - FOR REAL!

Mr W.uk, Charlotte and Alexa
On Tuesday 25th March Mrs Barnett and Mr Womersley left their classes at midday and went to meet Charlotte and Alexa at Leeds Bradford airport where they caught the 13h00 plane down to Heathrow.

They waited for their 18h15 flight to Osaka in the luxurious Japan Air Lines lounge.

The flight was long, but JAL proved to be a fantastic airline. The blinds were down to lull us all into the feeling that it really was night time - therefore bed time, but unlike the rest of the passengers, Charlotte and Alexa were too excited to sleep, so the order of the night was Scrabble, Charlotte's puzzle book, visits out to the only unshuttered port hole to look out at the never ending snow covered wastes of Siberia - and a trip to the cock-pit.

Mr W.uk sets a trend and films his food!

At last we arrived in Osaka and were met by Yumi, Fushika and Ikuko, who along with their collegues looked after us all like royalty for the rest of the week.

We were the first to arrive, and had settled in and were having our evening meal when Mr Walker and party from Sixth Avenue arrived.

The yanks are coming!
Our first meeting with "One for the Web" Rich too.

The Aussies arrived even later, so the first time all the children got to meet each other was at breakfast the next morning.

They were quickly at ease with each other, exchanging news and comparing currencies!

And after breakfast we piled on to the bus, to move on to our next destination - Himeji - and a week packed with fun and new and exciting experiences.

You will see from the pictures that we soon became firm friends - determined to keep in touch, and to continue to work together from opposite sides of the world.
