Ty Inc. of Oak Brook, Ill. After working all year to keep small-time retailers stocked with Beanie Babies, Ty's 300 employees received cash bonuses equal to their entire 1998 income. Some wept. No company fixated on annual results would ever do that -- but neither would it inspire such gratitude.
