Freshwater Dolphins

Introduction

Freshwater dolphins are very rare. There are only four true freshwater dolphin species. They are the Amazon River Dolphins, the Chinese River Dolphins, the Ganges River Dolphins, and the Indus River Dolphins. However, there are three sub species of the river dolphins. They are the Irrawaddy dolphin, and the Tucuxi dolphin. These dolphins are classified as marine dolphins but they may journey into rivers. All or these dolphins are in great danger. Threats against all of them are: pollution, habitat degration, hunting, boat traffic, overfishing, and damming. Many breeding programs are taking place to help the dolphins. We can help save them too, we can do this by stop polluting, less fishing, less boating, and we need to quit cutting down their habitats.
