Almost since its inception, the children's television show "Blue's Clues" has had a faithful following of children and adults alike. In this age of technology, it seems natural that this show that was created with computers would inspire its fans to take to the Internet to discuss Blue, Steve, and their friends. The inevitable web pages devoted to the show sprung up, and provided a safe haven for little ones on the World Wide Web. Sites geared toward preschoolers are hard to find, so this network of Blue's Clues pages geared toward the entertainment and education of children was embraced by parents. As a "Blue" webmaster myself, I was amazed by the kind and supportive words that flooded my e-mailbox from the first day the Blue's Clues Clubhouse came online. We parents formed a club of sorts- we chatted about anything and everything having to do with the show, particularly after the Blue's Clues mailing list arrived (with a rather rocky start :-)...) When the long-awaited merchandise started to appear, we gathered information and shared it with each other...which resulted in busy phone lines at the Viacom Store and contributing greatly to the success of the merchandise roll-out. The "unofficial" Blue's Clues sites continued to prosper. Viacom created an educationally-geared Blue's Clues site, that was very well done- but it just didn't foster that feeling of community between parents of preschoolers that the original sites did. Besides, where else could our kids look at pictures of Steve, listen to Blue bark, or play Blue's Clues online (and the parents find great Steve interviews and biographies, for that matter)? Then along came Viacom, the company that owns Blue's Clues. They have decided that the time has come to shut down the non-sanctioned Blue's Clues sites. You will remember that they have done this in the past with Star Trek sites... but Blue's Clues?? It seems a bit ridiculous to shut down an institution that is enjoyed by a loyal fan base that takes a nap when the show is over and writes illegible fan letters to Steve and Blue in crayon. If you or your child have enjoyed seeing Blue online, I invite you to support the unofficial Blue's Clues sites that exist on the web. Please write Viacom at: Leslie Schwartz,
publicity If you operate a web site (particularly one devoted to our beloved show), please consider placing the ribbon logo found below on your page. You may want to link the logo back to this page (http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/1226/support.html) so that others may become involved in this cause. ![]() Support Blue's Clues on the Web! |
