In a marathon match, Martina lost to Anke Huber in five thrilling sets. Anke eventually won 2-6 6-3 2-6 6-2 7-5. This was only Martina's sixth loss of the season and ends the year with an amazing 79-6 win/loss record! (82-6 including the Hopman Cup)

Saturday 6th December 1997
Martina eased into the final with a convincing win over Lindsay Davenport today in straight sets 6-4 6-3. Martina finished the match by serving and ace on match point. Martina's opponent in the final will be Anke Huber, whom she has already beaten in the qualifying rounds.

Friday 5th December 1997
Martina defeated Anke Huber in straight sets 6-4 7-6 in her third match of her group. She ensured herself of a place in the semi finals having won three out of three matches in her group. Martina's opponent in the semi final will be Lindsay Davenport.

Thursday 4th December 1997
Martina won her second match of her group and avenged one of her five losses this year, by beating Amanda Coetzer of South Africa in straight sets 6-1 6-2.

Martina gained revenge for a quarter final loss to Mary Pierce at the Chase Championships last month, defeating her in straight sets 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 at the new Masters of Champions tournament.
