Porsche Grand Prix '97 (Filderstadt)

Martina's reaction after her successfully defending her title at the Porsche Open in Filderstadt on Sunday.

Sunday 12th October 1997

Martina completed the singles-doubles sweep at the Porsche Grand Prix, by capturing the doubles crown with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario. They defeated Lindsay Davenport and Jana Novotna 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-6 (7-3).
It is the sixth time this year Martina has won both the singles and the doubles in the same tournament. She did it in The Ford Australian Open, Open Gaz de France, Family Circle Cup, Bank of the West Classic and Toshiba Classic.
Martina retained her title at Filderstadt by beating Lisa Raymond in todays final. It was a straight sets win 6-4 6-2 in just 66 minutes. Lisa also had an injury time-out, so Martina decided she would have a training match with a ball-boy to the amusement of the spectators.
Martina wins her 2nd Porsche as this is the prize offered by the sponsors. This time it's a red Porsche 911 which she have parked next to the convertible she won last year!

Saturday 11th October 1997

Martina defeated Amanda Coetzer today in straight sets today. The score was 6-2 6-2, which took just 55 minutes. Martina will meet the unseeded American Lisa Raymond in the final.

Friday 10th October 1997

Martina defeated Magdalena Maleeva in straight sets 6-2 6-3. She will face Amanda Coetzer in the semi finals, where she will have the chance to avenge the loss she suffered in Liepzig against her.

Thursday 9th October 1997

Martina will play Magdalena Maleeva in the quarter finals in Filderstadt.

Martina defeated Natasha Zvereva today in three sets 4-6 6-1 6-4.

Monday 6th October 1997

The Porche Tennis Grand Prix at Filderstadt starts today. Martina will be playing here to defend the first WTA title she won.

Martina recieves a first round bye as she is the top seed, so her first match will not be until Wednesday, when she will play the winner of the match between Conchita Martinez and Natasha Zvereva.
