CJRL HISTORY
The Central Jersey Rotisserie League began in March of 1990, and is entering it's 12th year. Although the DNTs took 1st place for the first three years, different teams won the next four years. Unfortunately, the DNTs returned to power and won the next two titles. We feel that our rules regarding waivers, long-term contracts, and protected rosters help promote a fresh pool of talent for each auction draft.
The following tables show the end of year standings for each year of our league.

*The DNT's won on the tie-breaker. The first tie-breaker was head-up competition in each category. That still resulted in a tie. The next level was the team with the most first place rankings per category. The DNT's had two, the Foulks' Follies had one.
It is interesting to note that the tie-breaker system was changed the following season, and based on the new system, the Foulks' Follies would have been champions!

*The DNT's again won on the tie-breaker. The first tie-breaker is still head-up competition in each category. That still resulted in a tie. The next level was the new method, where the tie is broken by adding each tied team's TOTAL AT-BATS at season's end, plus TRIPLE THE NUMBER OF ITS INNINGS PITCHED. The team that scores the higher total wins the pennant. The DNT's had 10,243, the Super Kings had 9149.
Two new teams had entered the CJRL for 1991: the Ladykillers and the Reel Heels. The Black Flags lost one of its founding partners and became the Checkered Flags.

The 1992 season began with three original teams deciding that Rotisserie Baseball wasn't for them. Gone were the Simpsons, Deadheads, and Fabulous Baker Boys. One rookie team, the Reel Heels, also retired. Three new teams entered the league: the Cassville Crew, Howie's Halos, and the Terminators. The Terminators wasn't actually a new team to CJRL. The two founding owners of the DNT's, struggling over whether or not to keep Andres Galarraga, parted company, with the anti-Andres owner starting the Terminators.
Ownership changes did not deter the DNT's, who completed a "threepeat", winning their third straight CJRL title.

The 1993 season began with a blast from the past! One of the founding owners of the Black Flags returned to form Gig's Rubberneckers.
A tie-breaker decided third place between former partners DNT's and Terminators, with the Terminators coming out on top. The Terminators won on head-up category rankings 5 to 3.

The 1995 season was very exciting, including a very close finish for fifth place. The Foulks' Follies edged out the Terminators and the Knuckle Knockers in a race that came down to the final day of the season.
Another high note to the 1995 season was the drastic change in team name for Gig's Rubberneckers to the Knuckle Knockers! Many analysts suspect that the name change was only a devious strategy to confuse the other team owners on auction draft day.

The 1996 season began on a very sad note with the unfortunate passing of Arlene Foulks of the Foulks' Follies. She was well-loved and is missed by many. She helped make the game fun, and she is often in our thoughts.
The Flying Elvis's left the league before the 1996 season. New to the league were the Peacekeepers and the Devil Dogs.
There was tremendous competition for second through fifth place, with only two points separating the four spots! The Cassville Crew took second, leaving the Ladykillers, Hayley's Heroes, and the No-Names to claim third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Another high note to the 1996 season was the team name change for the Checkered Flags to Hayley's Heroes (in honor of her first born), and a first time top five finish for the team. One must wonder if the name change sparked the team's performance.

The 1997 season was a very competitive one for all spots except first place. The DNTs
won their unprecedented fourth CJRL title, almost going wire to wire to win the championship.
The Terminators (formerly partners with the DNTs) briefly took over the top spot for three weeks
in July.
Gone from the league were the Pulverizers, and new to the league was the father/son team of the
Las Vegas Gamblers. There were two other notable aspects of the 1997 season. The institution
of the Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB) helped assure even more equity in an already
competitive league. Also, League Secretary and all around good guy Bob Taylor utilized a phone
line and answering machine which was dedicated to the CJRL during baseball season. It too was
another improvement for the league.

The 1998 season was very exciting. The DNTs held on for their second CJRL championship in a row and unprecedented fifth championship. The Ladykillers edged the Terminators for second place with a lot of help from the Razmataz and their trade of a $35.00 Randy Johnson. A new rule to help prevent lopsided trades was enacted where any player who is bid for more than $8.75 must be kept for the following year. Obviously Randy Johnson would not be kept at the salary. Luck ran out for the Las Vegas Gamblers who left the league after only one season, however their work with their pitching staff panned out for the new owners, Tim and Bill O'Reilly, who renamed the team the Spiders and promptly challenged for the title in their first season.

The 1999 CJRL season was a down to the wire affair. The Ladykillers made a couple of key trades to help assure victory. The DNTs edged out the Terminators for the second spot, and the Terminators stayed out of reach of the Knuckle Knockers for third. The most controversial event of the year occurred when the Atlanta Braves called up Bruce Chen from the minors. So much was made of the situation that a new rule was enacted by executive order of the rules committee to make sure that all moves are done on a good faith basis.

The 2000 CJRL season was an interesting affair. The Cassville Crew dominated the league, finishing with 90 points en route to Joe Schott's first CJRL championship. The Razmataz finished in second for their highest placement yet. The league felt that 13 teams, as we had in 1999, was too many, so we moved it back to 12. The consensus is that this is the best number for the game. We had a first-year team drop out in middle of the season, which caused some issues in the league. The main issue was a "blockbuster trade" involving the team that left the league, which caused an unprecedented shift of power from one team to another. This caused the first ever CJRL Emergency Rules Committee Meeting, which resulted in the "Blockbuster Trade Rule" (see our "Rules" link for the exact rule).
A tie-breaker decided sixth place between father and daughter, Super Kings and Hayley's Heroes. Daddy came out ahead on the second-level of the tie breaker, having a higher total of "at bats" plus "triple of innings pitched".
